Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really different This is quite different than most coloring book. A great way to learn about shading and highlighting

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes everyone's coloring look fabulous! After coloring the thousandth leaf in another coloring book, I find this one very gratifying. Because of the shading already there, acting as a guide, it's very easy to product beautiful finished pieces. Even if one just colored with one single color (without thinking about shading or layering different colors), the result is still impressive. Highly recommend. In fact, I know several people who have already bought several as gifts after seeing me with mine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Pizza Dinner of Colouring Books! This colouring book reminds me of the time I saw my friend eating a jam and (cheddar) cheese sandwich. You don't think it should work but then . . . POW! A new style of colouring book that eludes tradition but advances it at the same time. I told my roommate the other day that this thing is the pizza dinner of colouring books. It gives me exactly what I want, only in place of bread, cheese, tomato sauce and a generous sprinkling of pineapple, I get arresting scenes, gratifying progress and an ethereal validation of my colour sensibilities as I stare back into the eyes of the cheetah that my staedler's brought to life! I also had fun uploading my finished work to share at the book's website.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality and makes a great gift! Bought this book for my wife for her birthday. She's a big colouring book fan and has all of the usual suspects. I was a bit worried about the grey scale approach because it was so different than the other colouring books she has but I wanted to get her something different and special so I went for it anyway. Thankfully she really loved book and has produced some amazing pieces. Whenever I order her a colouring book as a gift I'm always a bit fearful that it will be one of those cheap feeling books which I know she's not a fan of and I'll end up look bad. Thankfully this book turned out to be high quality i.e. heavy paper, single sided and largish format with substantial feel. She talked me into giving it a try as well. I'm not very artistic but I humoured her and coloured the snake. Surprisingly it turned out pretty decent (not as good as my wife but respectable) so I'd say you don't have to be super competent to make something that looks nice. Net/net a great gift!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Felt Like An Artist 'Beautiful Creatures’ has endless creative possibilities with its shading of the ‘gray scale’. This simple process makes you feel like an accomplished artist as you start to see beautiful three dimensional works of art emerging from the pages. The gray scale is the guide for any colour you choose, and with a good set of pencil crayons your choices are limitless! I was instantly captured by the creative challenge this book offered based on such a simple technique. This would be a wonderful gift to share with either an accomplished artist, or a novice who enjoys working with varying shades of colour and creating their own unique works of art. Equally relaxing and enjoyable, this beautiful book takes colouring to a new level!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy with this lovely colouring book! I'm extremely pleased with this book. I love to colour over grayscale and this is the first colouring book I've found that offers this. It is a beautiful book that I am truly enjoying colouring. I will be buying more copies to give as a gift for the holidays because of how lovely the book is overall. The paper is excellent quality. It's thick and printed on only one side which is something I prefer in a colouring book. I've been using coloured pencils and find that they layer very nicely on this paper. The pages can be removed (perforated) and they have a nice little area on the back of each page for putting your name and the date you completed the piece. I think that's quite a special touch. There are 48 images in the book that are all quite stunning and eye-catching. I'm very excited to colour most if not all of them!

Editorial Reviews

"Coloring a grayscale image is like creating magic and turning a page into a colorful reality. At first I thought it was very complex but the moment I started coloring, I just couldn't stop. The gray tones served as a guide for my instinct and artistry to decide what color to apply. It also liberated me to create an alternate reality of an image. It was very relaxing, extremely fun and it sharpened my coloring skills. I absolutely enjoyed how my imagination and reality merged in the final colored image." - Joanna Lynn Flores, Artist
