Created by Kenturo Miura, Berserk is manga mayhem to the extreme - violent, horrifying, and mercilessly funny - and the wellspring for the internationally popular anime series. Not for the squeamish or the easily offended, Berserk asks for no quarter - and offers none!
His name is Guts, the Black Swordsman, a feared warrior spoken of only in whispers. Bearer of a gigantic sword, an iron hand, and the scars of countless battles and tortures, his flesh is also indelibly marked with The Brand, an unholy symbol that draws the forces of darkness to him and dooms him as their sacrifice. But Guts won't take his fate lying down; he'll cut a crimson swath of carnage through the ranks of the damned - and anyone else foolish enough to oppose him! Accompanied by Puck the Elf, more an annoyance than a companion, Guts relentlessly follows a dark, bloodstained path that leads only to death...or vengeance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good start to an epic series Probably the best series I have ever read. The content is unforgiving, uncensored, and will undoubtedly have you reading book after book. Certain characters latch on to you, but try not to be too heart broken if they don't happen to survive. As of now they don't have the entire series available, but hopefully they reprint it soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dark Fantasy The series deals with a lot of heavy themes. The protagonists are not your usual "heroes". The things that they do, and have done to them, can be horrific. It's to the credit of the author, that they don't try to shy away from this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Riveting! This is probably one of the best dark fantasy mangas out there. You could almost call it the "Game of Thrones" of Japan as this medieval/fantasy story is a sprawling epic that pulls no punches. It's unfortunate the series is out of print so you won't be lucky in finding them all here but entirely worth the read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best This is one of the best mangas out there. Set in medieval times, volume 1 of Berserk follows a band of mercenaries as they try to rise through the noble ranks. It is a dark and violent story with strong character development, particularly the relationship between Guts and Griffith. This story will not disappoint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best mangas i have ever read hello, i am here to tell you that this is one series you should not over look. i realy only collect two manga series thats Arm of Kannon[which is very good as well] and berserk. i have got 2 other manga that i tried to start but its impossible to read them after reading the master piece that Kentaro Miura has made. i have issues 1 - 5 and its almost the the end of the anime series[which is another thing you don't want to miss]. the story is great and is a must buy in my book. if you think your up to it the price of $20 a isssue is very worth the money, i would recomend this to my grandmother and anyone else thats looking for a funny, fun,and exciting new read. i give the Berserk series a 5 out of 5.
