Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Sci-fi This was written as taking place 50 years in the future... from the early 1990's. Now that we're closer to that future date than the date it was written, I saw a lot that echoed today's technology and issues. A little slow in the middle, but it all comes together in the end. A really engaging story, and a great read. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from you have to read this... really! I believe that I have read this book at least 5 times. Once when I was much younger and then repeatedly as I got older. I have had my entire family read it as well. When I first read it I thought it was a prophetic view of what our world could possibly become, but now so many of the previously unheard of ideas and inventions are commonplace. David Brin has given us a vision of a terrible future that is now just around the corner. Scary.
