Kingdoms collide in Sarah J. Maas's epic fifth installment in the New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series.

The long path to the throne has only just begun for Aelin Galathynius. Loyalties have been broken and bought, friends have been lost and gained, and those who possess magic find themselves at odds with those who don't.

With her heart sworn to the warrior-prince by her side, and her fealty pledged to the people she is determined to save, Aelin will delve into the depths of her power to protect those she loves. But as monsters emerge from the horrors of the past, and dark forces become poised to claim her world, the only chance for salvation will lie in a desperate quest that may mark the end of everything Aelin holds dear.

In this breathtaking fifth installment of the New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series, Aelin will have to choose what -- and who -- to sacrifice if she's to keep the world of Erilea from breaking apart.

Sarah J. Maas is the #1 New York Times and internationally bestselling author of the Throne of Glass series, as well as the Court of Thorns and Roses series. Rated 5 out of 5 by from I absolutely LOVED this book Once again, SJM has done it; cut us fans off at the knees and left us a blubbering mess... In a good way! This book is so good, as is the rest of the series, and if you're on the fifth book, you must be already sold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good. Oh man the sex scenes in this series are cringe worthy. Fair warning. Aside from that great read! From beginning to end I couldn't put it down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! Before I get into things, let me explain something. I had a large amount of apprehension when it came to reading this book because I honestly didn't really think I would enjoy it. I enjoyed Queen of Shadows but I still cannot get over how much I disliked Heir of Fire. I'm actually surprised I continued to read the series after Heir of Fire because I disliked it so much. So in the back of my mind I couldn't help but think that Queen of Shadows may have been a "one off" and this one would be as bad as Heir of Fire. Also, this book is one hefty tomb and I predicted that it would not be able to capture my attention for the whole length. Happily, I can say I was wrong on all accounts! I loved this novel and it was able to capture my attention throughout the whole thing! Sarah J. Maas did an excellent job with this one. The story was amazing and the world building continued to be incredible. It felt like each scene was laid out in my brain and I could envision everything that was happening perfectly. The battles were dramatic and I was unable to predict the outcome so much so that I was sitting there clenching my seat in anticipation. Part of that is because the characters that Sarah J. Maas has created. I felt invested in each of their stories! Even Manon, who when she was originally introduced a couple of books ago I did not like. Now, I'm the opposite and am a big Manon fan. I understand that there will be two sides when it comes to the involvement of Chaol within this story. Mild spoiler below (...not really though). [Some will be opposed to the fact that he's not included within this novel aside from some minor mentions. Then the other camp is okay that he wasn't involved in this novel. Personally, I'm in the latter camp. Do not get me wrong, I do like Chaol but I was actually sort of...happy that he wasn't in this one. That sounds terrible but he had his own adventure going on at the same time which is the novel, Tower of Dawn. Overall though, I have to be honest and just say that I didn't find anything lacking with his character not involved in this particular story. Sorry---not sorry, for all the Chaol lovers out there.] As for love....can we just take a moment for the amount of hot and steamy scenes in this novel?! Let it be known, this book leans more towards the New Adult than Young Adult genre. If you aren't about the hot and steamy scenes, this novel may not be your favourite. However, there is also a lot of other stuff going on within the story--it isn't purely romance. But if you are like me and enjoy a good romance, there is not just one hot and steamy romantic couple, there is---at least four. True the level of romance varies for each couple but let me just say--I was all about them all and now I feel like I've become even more invested in their outcomes! That ending though. Heartbreaking yet perfect. It was the perfect ending and introduces the potential for a lot more novels. Honestly, from here, the series could go in many different directions and Aelin does not necessarily have to be the main character for each novel. I definitely do want more from her perspective but I do want to know the future of the other characters as well. Overall, I highly recommend this novel even for those apprehensive about continuing the series. It was one of those books that I stayed up until 1am to finish and that can be rare for me (for that to happen it's either a book I loved or the exact opposite). I cannot wait to read the next book in the Throne of Glass series (aside from Tower of Dawn....which I will read but..meh) because I cannot wait to see how the adventure continues from here.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, But Did Not Enjoy As Much As I'd Hoped I'm starting to realize that I love all the characters in this book except Aelin herself. Her attitude, while at times witty and sarcastic and yas-queen-slay, really starts to get on my nerves after a while. This, and her hard-headed and completely pointless insisting that she form all her plans and carry out all her ideas strictly by herself. What, then, is the bloody point of forming a court if you never allow them to speak their ideas or aid you in battle plans? Dropping a bombshell when you reveal that, oh, by the way, I planned this months ago and ha, ha, you're just learning of it now, thank the gods it worked - that fits well into the story the first time. After that, it gets really annoying, really bloody fast. Other than this, I would say I enjoyed this book, but the sheer size of it - over 600 pages; seriously? Was it really necessary to print this book with Bible-thin pages? - made it increasingly difficult to muddle through. After the time and effort it took to get through this series, I can honestly say I'm glad to be finished with it. I'm not sure it will be a re-read for me, but I'm glad I took the time to read it and see what all the hype was about.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The characters give me a will to live The characters in this book are all amazing I especially LOVED Elide! I had fun reading it and want to be able to read it again soon. I didn't particularly like the ending, but I still thought it was cool. I think that Maas is a good writer and this is one of my favourite books in this series because of how she wrote and explored her characters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This book left me a mess There are so many things I want to say about this book so I'm just going to ramble. I get just as frustrated as Aedion when Aelin reveals her plans and schemes; there are so many surprises I lost count. Also, get ready for that ending. I had chills all throughout the last 50 pages or so. Such heartbreak and despair but still so much hope and love. I fell in love with the cadre, and Manon, and Elide (the other characters I loved already).

Date published: 2017-04-28
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Complete and utter perfection!! This book is by far my favourite in the series. I loved how it continued right after Queen of Shadows ended. There are a lot more dramatic scenes and plot twists that you would never think of. The only thing I was mad at was the ending because it was so heartbreaking and because it left me hanging!!!! Which is a good thing! Sarah J. Maas is a true literary genius as in this book, she involves everything from Aelin's past, even events from The Assassin's Blade. I can't wait until the next book comes out!
Date published: 2017-04-26
Rated 5 out of 5 by from SO MUCH BETTER This book was infinitely better than the last one! SO WORTH THE WAIT and we get to see more of Dorian and what he's capable of so that's never ever a bad thing in my books. I love the different layers of characters and how everything intertwines with one another (Lorcan and Elide in particular). My favourite chapters are the ones with Manon in it just because the things she does just makes her so much more interesting. There are loads of old/new characters being brought to light such as Gavriel and Fenrys and I can't wait to see more of them in the last book!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This book... Omg - this book. I am at a loss for words. EMPIRE OF STORMS destroyed me in the best way possible. This book had so many wonderful storylines, so many characters who I only loved more with each page turned. This instalment in the bestselling THRONE OF GLASS series does not disappoint. I enjoyed every chapter, every character's storyline. I ended up caring about Elide and Lorcan, Dorian and Manon, just as much as I do Aelin and Rowan. Sarah J. Maas never disappoints! If you haven't read this book yet, DO IT NOW. :) The only thing I'll say about it is that you probably shouldn't read it if you're under eighteen, or at least skip the steamy scenes because it's a story not to be missed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it This book like all the others was amazing. It kept you interested the whole time and every time you thought you got an handle on something. Something new and exciting would happen. I can't wait for the next book 2018 is way to long :(

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 4.5 stars This was a great installment in a fast-paced, exciting, and well-thought out story! I love the multiple perspectives and the diversity of characters. I will say, however, that this book dragged in some places which made it a bit boring. I was also really displeased with how many similarities I saw compared to Game of Thrones and The Hunger Games. I understand that sometimes in fantasy world building and magical elements become similar, but originality will always be more successful to me than copying. Can't wait for the next one!
Date published: 2017-03-21
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best one yet Every book gets better in a new way I find and the end of this one left me all torn up and I'm ever more torn up that I have to wait over a year to find out what happens!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This series gets better each book This series is one of my favorites so far. The characters have grown and gone through so much since we first met them. I felt it took a while for the story to take off and that there was more romance added in then in the previous books. But the ending more than made up for it. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book to come out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Holy Crap! This book is a wild ride. I think I was swearing for most of the book and felt like punching walls... There are so many twists & turns, and this book really plays on your heartstrings

Rated 5 out of 5 by from She's Done it Again! Another incredible installment to the enthralling "Throne of Glass" series by Sarah J Maas! We get to see incredible in depth character development with Manon, and a few other characters I ate this book up. I can't wait for the next one!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I LOVE TOG but this book fell flat This was a really big disappointment for me. :( I loved all the books (well, MOSTLY all the books up to this one...QOS was a mess) and was hoping for some really awesome action-packed, kick ass females fighting like Maas normally has, but instead I got a sex-crazed book, basically smut really, with every character fawning over Aelin like she was some perfect Goddess and nothing more. I really don't like where the story has gone at this point, yet I will finish it since there's only one more. Overall I wish I only read the first two and pretended the rest didn't exist, all because of this book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Addictive I read Empire of Storms within a few days and I don't regret it! I loved how the side characters did shine for me in this book, with a surprise couple beginning their relationship. Each instalment in this series gets better and better, Sarah J Maas knows how to grip your heartstrings and make you nervous to what may happen to our beloved characters! I'm sad to have the series end in the next book but I am so excited to read the concluding novel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WARNING: WILL TEAR YOUR HEART TO SHREDS one of my all time favorite books, and its hard to say because typically, the books following the first one in a series just go downhill , but ABOSLUTELY NOT with the throne of glass series. if anything, it gets only better.
Date published: 2017-01-24
Rated 5 out of 5 by from As Strong as Ever Many series begin to run out of energy or original material after a couple of novels. This series however, is not one of the them. This book was equally entertaining and upsetting as all its predecessors. Can't wait for the follow up!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing!!! I love how when you read this book there are little hints and foreshadowing for what is to come as you make it closer to the end. There are so many little details that are easy to miss and it makes you want to read this book over again just to pick up on them. I find myself constantly going back through all the books in this series the find those little bits. I can't wait for the next book to come out!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favourite Book! This book completely redeemed this series for me. Usually after the third book I feel like the series drags but after reading this book, it has given my hope for the future. Selena and Rowan forever!
Date published: 2017-01-08
Rated 5 out of 5 by from IT JUST GETS BETTER Got this as a gift and almost cried. I have been waiting to read this for so long. This book it definitely a page turner, as with all of Maas' novels. I finished it in two weeks! Aelin keeps defying the odds of survival and never forgets her humorous/sarcastic jokes either. At one point you think you know where the story is going, but then you turn the page and then it goes a different direction. This book definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. Cannot wait for the nest one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from im still recovering I don't think I've ever experienced so many emotions at once with this book, it ripped me apart.
Date published: 2017-01-07
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing This series continues to surprise me. Since book one started exposing things about Celaena and now with Aelin, the plot continues to amaze me. One thing I love about Mass's writing is that you can see how much effort she puts into the books, especially by the end of them. You realize the character did this because of this and this statement stays very true in Empire of Storms. I can't wait to read the final installment of the series.
Date published: 2017-01-05
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely Sarah's writing and storytelling just continues to amaze me. The book itself made me shed a few tears just because of how wonderfully developed the characters had become since they were first introduced.
Date published: 2017-01-04
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Insanely captivating!! A wonderful instalment to the ToG series, each book continues to surprise and entrance. Not only is the main character's story intriguing but the split narratives of secondary characters are just as exciting, I'm constantly stuck at not wanting each different story to switch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT SERIES FOR TEENS AND ADULTS I loved this book and the whole series, it is the perfect amount of flow that comes with a teen novel and easy ready while holding up to the fantasy genre as well
Date published: 2016-12-29
Rated 3 out of 5 by from meh To be honest, ever since QoS this series has been going downhill and my excitement about the release of this book was not what it used to be. The main character is not so much a character as she is a plot device now. The characters kind of fall flat on the page and I didn't really care for the romance between the main ship. Thrilling and tear-jerking at times, but I don't have high hopes for the next book.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from That ending! I pre-ordered this book in April, so that will give you an idea of how much I looked forward to this book. I was pretty surprised to find, though, that it has taken me 5 days to read. Not that I read it for 5 days straight, but that it was not so compelling that I couldn't put it down and do other things. That is a first for me when it comes to this series. I had planned to re-read the series this summer in anticipation of this release, but I just didn't get around to it. I did go to the ReCaptains website to refresh my memory re: what happened in the previous books before I started though. Even with that, I still found the first couple of hundred pages a bit tedious, trying to catch up on and remember the secondary characters. I also found that I was missing Celaena and the comedic relief that she usually adds to each situation. I found the story to be a lot darker and the characters more serious; even Aelin and Aedion were bickering back and forth a lot. The book started to really draw me in around page 175 and then... Lysandra! I won't spoil anything, but when that thing happened... what Lysandra did...I fell in love with her a little bit too. This was going to be a 4 star read for me until Lysandra earned it a whole star all on her own! The ending was phenomenal and the last 250 pages or so was "un-put-down-able" for me. Not only that, but it was downright heartbreaking, as we have all become accustomed to with Sarah's books. The relationships that she has woven are complex and satisfying. As I usually do when I finish a book, I read other readers' reviews. I see there is some major outcry regarding the sex scenes. Yeah, I definitely won't be recommending this to my daughter or nieces, but I actually wouldn't have considered having them read it before this book either so it doesn't bother me the way it bothers others. Personally, I found the scenes, especially the first one, to be kind of cheesy and groan-worthy (not in a good way) and definitely did not add anything positive to the story. Possibly because I'm not totally sold on Rowan, but also because it came nowhere close to the scene in ACOMAF, which was a lot more appropriate to the story line. Even Manon and Dorian...that was kind of icky to be honest, and I skipped over a lot of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Epic Book Hangover I'm in total shock. Can it be next year yet because I need the next book immediately! Sarah J. Maas is the queen of teen fantasy with her amazing, shocking plot lines and addicting writing skills. It took me a while to read Empire of Storms because there is so much information and the story is getting better and better. You will definitely have a book hangover/be tortured after finishing Empire of Storms (EoS). The fifth installment (EoS) in this amazing series was perfection wrapped up into one. I think I need a family tree just to remember some of the plot! But now I can be a little scared at what Sarah has planned for the last book. By the end it tore me apart and took bits of my soul with it. When I first started the book I was instantly taken back into this brilliantly plotted world. I loved reading from Aelin, Rowan, Manon, Dorian, Aedion and more because all their perspectives are very important because Sarah is an expect at switching point of views as well as leave you wanting more of that scene. I can also finally say I'm full Team Rowan after reading this beauty and already want to reread it. I loved all the characters just the same. But you do notice that one character was missing throughout the novel: Chaol. I was a little sad we didn't get to see what he was up to but I think we will be seeing him in book 6. Empire of Storms had so many swoons and feels (chapter 38) that there are no other words to describe it as this book will take you by storm and you will be wondering what happen to the rest of the pages since you need to know what is going to happen next! Especially the way it ended. Throne of Glass is one of the best teen fantasy series that I have read and now I have to wait until the last book comes out. Next year will be hard because we will be saying goodbye to all these characters. I'm looking forward to how Sarah will wrap up her epic series that will be on everyone's wishlists once it comes out!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant and Full of Action! Sarah J Mass expertly throws plot twists in your face while simultaneously making you hate and love her characters. They either make stupid mistakes that force them to learn and grown, or they show you how mature they are y doing something unexpected and selfless. Overthrowing an evil army is extremely difficult, but it's barely begun yet. This is an epic tale full of master deceit, selflessness, power, and sacrifice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't believe it Honestly there were so many surprises! I felt like how the characters felt like in the book every single time something unexpected happened. You will get what I mean once you read it. There's so many characters that I'm pissed at and after reading it I needed to talk to someone about it, but none of my friends have read it. Luckily there's always tumblr :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good, very good. I bought this book a while ago and just recently finished. I admit I didn't at once get hooked into the book but as it went on, I gradually had the need to want to finish it right away! It gave me suspense and action-paced adventures. More secrets are revealed and characters are developed even more. Sarah is honestly a master at surprising and manipulating my feels. I would recommend this book to anyone who doesn't mind getting their emotions played.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolute Perfection I’ve been following the Throne of Glass series since (almost) the beginning; I picked up Throne of Glass as soon as it was out in soft cover, and in no time, I was hooked. I, like many other readers, have been eagerly awaiting the release of Empire of Storms for well on a year now, and the wait was certainly worth it! Maas has produced another beautiful written, intricate piece that will leave readers wanting more and utterly shattered. Sarah J Maas is a storytelling master. Every single page of this book was masterfully written (even if I didn’t necessarily enjoy where the story was going at certain points). Empire of Storms is an exceptional novel, adding to an already exceptional series. Fans of the series will not emerge this novel unscathed; Sarah J Maas peppered this book with just the right amount of romance, action, intrigue and heart-break, sure to leave readers reeling long after they finish that last page.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from There are no words ... This book was amazing, how Sarah was able to tie everything together is something I will never know. Crown of midnight has always held first place in my mind when it comes to the best throne of glass novel, but it has found its equal in Empire of Storms. The romance in this book is intense, the action continuous. Even more characters to love, and some new povs that are very intriguing. But be warned, the cliffhanger that finishes this novel is the worst in the entire series, you will be tempted to find Sarah j maas and force her to reveal what happens by any means necessary. It will take some time to regain control of yourself, but it is possible. If I could pre order the next book now, I would.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from it wasn't great this book felt so separate from the rest of the series. Definitely was like a spin off instead of a fifth book. Very similar to ACOMAF and it was as if Sarah J Maas couldn't separate those two worlds in this book. I'm still excited for the last book but in my mind, this book never existed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One Of The Best Books I've Ever Read Oh God–– this book, this series–– five stars is not enough. 10 stars. I just–– I don't even know where to start, other than saying that this is not only one of the best books I've read all year, or my entire life. It's one of the best books ever written. It pulled out every emotion in the end and left me in tatters, but not without hope. Not without saying, "This is writing at its best." Sarah J. Maas is a master of her craft. A gifted writer who continues to draw readers through epic adventures, heart-stopping love and loyalty, and soul-crushing sacrifice. I love the THRONE OF GLASS books, but this one... this one owns my soul. Every beautiful word, every tiny scene captured me, transported me to another realm, and has made me want to be a better writer. I don't know how she did it, but I couldn't be more grateful to have experienced this book. Now, why does it own my life? Well, there's the story. Utterly incredible, detailed and complex, with so many twists and turns that I could scarcely keep track of them all. The best part about it was that everything–– even events from THE ASSASSIN'S BLADE, which should be read to get the full weight of this book–– came into play. The journey that Aelin and her court made was thrilling from the moment it began to the heartbreaking finale. Characters found each other in extreme circumstances and grew in ways I never imagined. The book didn't feel as long as it was, and it kills me to know I have another year to wait for the finale. There were scenarios that left my eyes wide with panic, my heart pounding and desperate to get to the next page, and I had to bite my tongue (reading in public) to stop from cheering on the characters. Aelin... I don't know how she does it. That woman is a genius, an inspiration, and unquestionably a queen worth fighting for. Side characters like Eldie, Manon, and Lorcan surprised me. Dorian is going to have an incredible journey and I can't wait to see what happens to him. Aeidon and Lysandra were amazing and had great inspirations. And Rowan... Oh gods, there are no words for Rowan. Maas certainly knows how to make you fall in love with characters like him. There's a reason her romances threaten to stop my heart whenever I read them. The ending... I can barely talk about the ending. It was brutal and I cringe about the opening of book six, but it was also beautiful. The sacrifice and pain that was endured, what it all forged toward, the gravity of it... You're not human if you don't feel something during those last 100 pages. This is the longest review I've ever written outside of my website, because this has easily become my favourite book of all time. EMPIRE OF STORMS is one of the many books that has now shown me what epic, amazing writing looks like, and I can only dream that one day I'll have honed my own craft to this level of skill. This book is inspiration bound in paper and ink, and I will never stop loving it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It was okay. I don't know how I feel about this novel. It is good by all means BUT why did I spent like a week re-reading ACOMAF? There are so many elements which are really similar to the other trilogy (which i absolutely adored). I feel like the romances were being pushed upon us much more ( I do like Aelin and Rowan, but geez). He is always nipping at her, like anyone in a relation, would that be okay with you? I guess it would. Dorian just became someone I don't even recognize. More brutal I guess. The best thing about this novel is Manon! She is the most badass character! All the men in this book are fucking gorgeous, like can I get ONE average looking guy and girl please? Overall, it had a good plot and a lot of action which I enjoyed. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME! To be honest it took me about until 100 pages to get into the book. But after that I couldn't stop reading. The plot definitely was pushing forward. Side characters were definitely developed and were honest my favourite part of the series. The main character fell flat for me throughout the book though. I didn't see much growth in her. I thought she'd develop as a leader, as it is being eluded too at the beginning. I thought she'd prove those guys wrong. She was definitely showing growth at the end. The romances in here were definitely interesting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SO DAMN SASSY, i would give this book 6 stars if possible this book is full of sarcastic, smartass, beaaaauutful characters i instantly fell in love with. I didnt like Rowan much in the first books, but DAAAMMMN in this book i melted into a puddle of mush every time he would breath. Sarah J Maas creates such memorable characters and an amazing story, and the series could easily enter in JK Rowling territory. at the end, when i finished it, i needed the next book, like desperately. the book was a rollercoaster of emotions and i dont experience that with many books. i laughed , i cried, i squealed, i died, and then i cried again. DEFINITELY one of the best books of the year.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Didn't expect to like it, and I didn't Like the last TOG book, I found this very hard to enjoy. I have so many problems with this series at this point, I can't really notice anything I think is done right. I started to become bored with Aelin in Queen of Shadows but I chalked that up to not being used to her new personality yet but after reading another 700 pages about her, I'm pretty confident that I just don't like her very much. I don't think that Aelin retains enough of the spice and cleverness that made me love Celaena. Aelin making random plans behind her friends' backs and revealing them at the last second isn't cute anymore. It made sense when she was alone in life, or when others knowing her plans would keep them from succeeding but that isn't her life anymore. Aelin supposedly trusts every member of her new court with her life but she didn't tell them about Ansel because... she wanted to see the surprise on their faces? I just don't buy that, and the people risking their lives for Aelin deserve to take part in decision-making. Another plot point that I didn't feel made sense was Rowan's cousins switching sides. If they were mortals I could have accepted it, but it's been said multiple times now that the Fae have seen civilizations raised and fallen and that they don't get involved in temporary mortal affairs. Even though we realise this isn't temporary, I just don't see what Rowan could have said to convince them to turn on Maeve so easily. A few of the descriptions of magic use were confusing and unclear. Just like in QOS, it seemed like new elements were added without being explained. Also like QOS, my biggest problem with this book was the romance. I still don't like AelinxRowan. I hate that I was right about Dorian and Manon, and Lysandra and Aedion being forced together exactly like Aelin and Rowan were. I didn't even expect it would get worse than that, but now we have Elide and Lorcan too. Not one of these four couples feels necessary, genuine, logical, loving, or natural. DorianxManon especially disturbs me, being that not too long ago Dorian saw the love of his life beheaded before him, and he's apparently completely over that and has simply chosen someone less "breakable"because of it. It's not just that I don't like any TOG romance. I loved CelaenaxChaol, I think CelaenaxSam made sense, and I even liked the flirtation between Celaena and Dorian and how that played out with Chaol as well. I just hate every current pairing. One of my biggest problems with YA fantasy/sci fi as a whole is that authors tend to insert romance where it's completely unnecessary, jamming two characters with no reason to be interested in each other together, but Sarah J Maas has taken that to a whole new, laughable level where literally no character isn't arbitrarily paired off. I think the ridiculousness of the romances in QOS and EOS has made this series completely irredeemable for me which is so sad given what I thought was such a strong start to the books. I'll finish the series because that's just what I do but I don't expect to like the next book.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A For the Lover of Books Review Number of pages: 689 Number of times read (including the time before this review): 1 Rating (out of five stars): 3 (read the review) I have absolutely no idea what I should rate this book (hence the “middle of the road” 3 stars). What I do know is that I will be reading the 6th book once it comes out. To begin, I shall tell you of the journey the series my friends know as “the fake fairy assassin series” has brought me on. After finishing The Young Elites by Marie Lu, I wanted to get my hands on The Rose Society, the sequel (this was soon after it was released last year). Chapters (Canada’s bookstore) was having a deal for their point system (I won’t go into detail, this is a long tale) if you bought 2 YA books. I convinced my mom to buy my The Rose Society along with this book I had heard so much about; Throne of Glass. I read Throne of Glass and didn’t enjoy it as much as I had hoped. I saw potential in the series, and I wanted to continue it (one of the few reasons I rated it 3 stars), but it was a “fluffy” book about a girl who basically caries a knife and dubs herself an assassin (I’m too tired to link the reviews. If you are really curious the Throne of Glass review can be found under the review tab on my blog under the one for The Rose Society). After Christmas I purchased the next three (including a signed copy of Queen of Shadows). The 2nd and 3rd book pretty much followed in the footsteps of the first (meaning they had potential, but where far from reaching it), except I had more of an urge to throw them. I then read Queen of Shadows and it was the book I had been looking for from the start. It was gripping and action packed (and I still hated Rowan). It brought me my first ever reading slump, and it also brought me an odd feeling in the pit of my stomach. There didn’t seem to be enough plot left to fill the remaining 2 books. And so I waited with dread for book 5. I can’t tell you how much of that plot was good, but I can tell you that it started to get good around page 300.This book was not nearly as gripping as Queen of Shadows, nor was it an emotional read, but it was enjoyable. Sarah J Maas’ writing has significantly improved since book 1. However, I found the fact that everyone seems to find a partner to be annoying. On the subject of the characters, it appears I have grown attached to Aelin (I won’t tell you how I know this because of spoilers). I really hope they either find a loophole, or use Dorian instead. Manon’s storyline was uninteresting, while Elide’s was the opposite (though I was concerned for Asterin). I only hate Rowan slightly less because it would break Aelin if he died (stop biting her, though. She’s not a rare food item). Gavriel is my favourite Fae, and Lysandra is probably my favourite character. There isn’t much else I want to discuss that I can discuss without spoiling things. If you have read the first 4 books, I say you should continue the series. If not, you should weigh the pros and cons for yourself.
