about

My disease is as rare as it is famous. It's a form of Severe Combined Immunodeficiency, but basically, I'm allergic to the world. I don't leave my house, have not left my house in fifteen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.
But then one day, a moving truck arrives. New next door neighbors. I look out the window, and I see him. He's tall, lean and wearing all black--black t-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly. I want to learn everything about him, and I do. I learn that he is funny and fierce. I learn that his eyes are Atlantic Ocean-blue and that his vice is stealing silverware. I learn that when I talk to him, my whole world opens up, and I feel myself starting to change--starting to want things. To want out of my bubble. To want everything, everything the world has to offer.
Maybe we can't predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It's almost certainly going to be a disaster.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Roller Coaster of Emotions This book had me engaged from the first sentence to the very last. I could have easily read this in one sitting, that is of course if adulting didn’t get in the way. The combination of the writing, short chapters and the inclusion of illustrations, text messages, and emails makes this a very quick read. Only thing I am left wanting is this book to be longer, the ending was quite open…maybe there will be a second book someday. This book had me on a roller coaster of emotions one minute I was laughing the next I was crying. The main characters were so uniquely wonderful. I found Maddy to be such a strong, confident young lady and I loved how she wasn’t your typical teenage girl you read about in YA. Olly was such a sweetheart, for not having the best home life he didn’t seem jaded and only wanted to help Maddy experience the life she always wanted to. There was a case of instanta-love but I seriously don’t mind instanta-love, but if that is something that bothers you here is your warning. All in all, this was a very enjoyable read and I can’t wait to read more from Nicola Yoon and to see the movie!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic I bought this book yesterday evening and finished it earlier today. I absolutely devoured it-the characters were wonderfully written, and the story was semi-predictable but still powerful and jarring. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a great, short book.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from overhyped was expecting more, but that's what you get when it's overhyped. i would read it if i were bored and like to read, i guess.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Enjoyed it so much I started reading it as soon as I got it. Such a fast read because of the short chapters, and also because I just had know what happened next.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from an easy and quick read! if you're looking for a quick and fun read, this is the book for you! yes, it was full of some of the contemporary cliches, but it was still cute and well-written at the same time
Date published: 2017-09-17
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy Read I really enjoyed this book! It had a unique premise, a great main character and a cute message. I recommend to all of you looking for a good quick read.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light, fun read Once I picked up this book, I couldn't put it down! Loved the little illustrations and the spoiler book reviews sprinkled throughout. While I saw the ending coming, it was still an enjoyable read from start to finish.
Date published: 2017-09-13
Rated 4 out of 5 by from enjoyable Really impressed with this one! Cute romance, funny dialogue, and the format/illustrations made this even more fun and unique. I also thought this book did a fantastic job at balancing the lightheartedness with the more serious stuff. Personally, I could've done with a bit more resolution at the end--it felt a little rushed, and I would've liked to linger for a few more pages. Also, there were some things that didn't quite add up when I stopped to think about them, but I was able to suspend my disbelief and just go with it. Overall, I thought this was a fantastic debut novel! Funny and sad and romantic all at once! Definitely recommended, especially if you like cute, unique contemporary.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So well written! I've been in such a book slump lately. This book brought me out of that. Is it exceptional? No. Is it a strong story, with well-developed characters (outside of her mom) and written very well? Yes. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a great YA read. I wouldn't bother with the movie. They even changed a small detail in the ending, and the book does it much better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from yes quite insightful and overall enjoyable.
Date published: 2017-09-10
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Easy Read Very easy read. Cute story line. I wouldn't call the book exciting by any means but it was a good easy read. (The movie on the other hand = horrible).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I loved this This book was so sweet and I could not put it down. It was a wonderful read
Date published: 2017-09-10
Rated 2 out of 5 by from I was hoping for more... To be honest I was very excited to read this book and I almost felt let down when I finished. It was very cheesy and almost predictable. Dont get me wrong, sometimes cheesy is great and I love a good love story but the story line was kind of boring. Cute story, just not for me or anyone over the age of 20.
Date published: 2017-09-08
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I could not put it down! I found out this book was going to be a motion picture so I decided to read it and I absolutely loved it! It is a book where you fall in love with the characters and get immersed in their lives, I could not put it down! I would definitley recommend this book!
Date published: 2017-09-08
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute book A cute story but very predictable, as many YA books can be
Date published: 2017-09-05
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute, quick read I read this book in a day. It was cute and enjoyable to read, and I like the use of doodles in the book. It is definitely a YA book though - don't expect to be overwhelmed with emotion or a complex plot line. I predicted the plot twist ahead of time, but that doesn't mean I didn't like it! I would still recommend this as something short and sweet to pick up between heavier reads - which is what I bought it for.
Date published: 2017-09-05
Rated 3 out of 5 by from good but problamatic this is a really fun cute read but it doesn't go without its problems
Date published: 2017-09-05
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Meh I read this book easily in one day. The plot twist was pretty predictable in my opinion and it also made me actually kinda dislike the book. (reminder: dislike does not mean I hated it) It isn't my favourite book but it was definitely a page turner. I recommend it as a quick read but not as an emotionally intense one.
Date published: 2017-09-04
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! A book that asks you many questions and helps think about the meaning of life.
Date published: 2017-09-03
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Enjoyable I really enjoyed the romance in the book (though cheesy at times). While reading, I found myself really liking the book but then I was a little disappointed by the ending. Overall, I believe its a great read.
Date published: 2017-09-02
Rated 2 out of 5 by from cheesy Loved the plot twist, interesting story but like a lot people say, a bit cheesy.
Date published: 2017-09-01
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Read It In A Single Day! It was an amazing read that involves a MAJOR twist that you don't see coming! A well-written novel. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! I absolutely loved this story- wish it was longer or made into a TV series! Definitely recommend reading the book over watching the movie , I haven't watched it but the trailer was not so promising, at least, it was missing some key features.
Date published: 2017-08-30
Rated 5 out of 5 by from my favourite book such an amazing novel, loved the plot twist and the romance between the two characters
Date published: 2017-08-29
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Read I loved this book, it's a quick read, I couldn't put it down.
Date published: 2017-08-29
Rated 3 out of 5 by from emotional this book was an emotional rollercoaster, but i wouldn't say it's the best thing ever because of how shallow and plain some of the other characters are. i found them hard to love and sympathize with, so i didn't enjoy as much as most people. still a good read though
Date published: 2017-08-29
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great book! I enjoyed this book and read it within two days. It had an interesting story line and I enjoyed the way it was written.
Date published: 2017-08-28
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for cheesy-romance lovers It was very unrealistic and a bit predictable. I enjoyed it a lot! So if you're a fan of cheesy teen-romance novels then this is the book for you!
Date published: 2017-08-25
Rated 3 out of 5 by from good, i guess this was a god book, had some cute moments but overall, its predictable and cliche. i exected more,
Date published: 2017-08-23
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Predictable.... Going into this novel it was very easy to predict the ending, it was cheesy and not the story for me. I can see why a lot of people would love the story but it honestly wasn't for me. My biggest problem was how it ended it didn't wrap up nicely and i had a huge problem with two of the relationships...
Date published: 2017-08-22
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute. Predictable. Interesting. This bok is very well written and has a little bit of everything in it. Love. Life. Sickness. Mental Health. Yoon did a great job in telling the story and explaining everything in just 306 pages. All in all it was a good story and had a really valuable lesson.
Date published: 2017-08-22
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! This book is a short read but an amazing story! It's really well written, Maddy's story plays out so incredibly. If I were Maddy writing a short review for 'Everything, Everything' I would write this: Not everything is what it seems.
Date published: 2017-08-18
Rated 5 out of 5 by from amazing only half way through this book and its amazing! such a great story
Date published: 2017-08-18
Rated 3 out of 5 by from alright While the book has its problem, it's a really quick and nice story. For a rainy afternoon or sometime at the beach. it's light and you'll go trough it really fast.
Date published: 2017-08-17
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cute It's a cute young love story. It's really quick read.
Date published: 2017-08-17
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good book A story about isolation and love, this book is sure to pull at your heart strings where characters come alive and you get lost within the pages.
Date published: 2017-08-15
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Liked It! I liked the overall story, the fact that there are some parts that are very short such as Maddy's spoiler alert part and also her definitions made the reading easier. I also liked the part where there are diagrams or picture included in the book because it was new to me and picked my interest.
Date published: 2017-08-15

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good read This was a very enjoyable read. Once I started I had a hard time putting it down.
Date published: 2017-08-08
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy read Easy to read and pretty entertaining. If, like me, you have a bit of a medical background or some knowledge on SCID it's somewhat predictable or you'll at least be a little suspicious about the writing until all is revealed.
Date published: 2017-08-07
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Made my reading slump worse Another classic example of insta-love.
Date published: 2017-08-07

Date published: 2017-08-07
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, not great Nice, easy read. Not a complex plot line; slightly predicatable, but overall very easy book to get lost in for a few hours.
Date published: 2017-08-07
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't live up to expectations I picked up this story thinking it was going to be amazing. I was so intrigued by the concept, but what reading I didn't like it. the ending was horrible like there was more to be said but it was just caught off in the middle of a sentence. So disappointing.
Date published: 2017-08-05
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heart warming I love light-hearted read like this, cute and really enjoyable
Date published: 2017-08-05
Rated 3 out of 5 by from light and sweet i enjoyed this but i had quite a few problems with it
Date published: 2017-08-05
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing "Everything Everything" is unpredictable, and is very interesting and the character I personally had a connection with is Madaline because sometimes being couped up in a house gets really boring. She makes me want to have a adventure in real life.
Date published: 2017-08-04
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Be Still My Beating Heart! This novel was recently adapted in to a film in May, as soon as I first saw the trailer I rushed to my nearest Chapters to buy the book. Two weeks before the movie was set to come out I had my nose in the book. I loved the storyline of an interracial couple as that is a topic not touched upon very much in literature, this novel was definitely a tear jerker for me of both happy and sad tears and the watching the film was like icing on the cake. This is a really great book for people wanting a lighter read with the excitement and romance of YA novels and the length of this novel is neither long nor short so its great for those not wanting an overly long book.
Date published: 2017-08-03
Rated 3 out of 5 by from I was okay with it It was little cliché.. some of the characters were kind of messed up so I don't really think they added much to the plot line, they were just kinda there. Not a bad read though, still enjoyable and a page turner.
Date published: 2017-08-03
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Predictable To an Extent, But Still a Good Read Overall, going into this book, I had already watched the movie so I knew what was going to happen. However, it was still an interesting read and I feel that when reading the book I actually pictured the movie and it made it easier to visualize. It was cheesy in some ways but that didn't stand in the way of the story being interesting.
Date published: 2017-08-03
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute Read Cute read with a very happy ending. I could not put it down and it was an easy read. I read it in one shot #plumreview

Rated 4 out of 5 by from cute book This book was an easy read with an unexpected ending.
Date published: 2017-08-02
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This book is a page turner from beginning to end and I would recommend that everyone and anyone should read it! It is a story about love, life, survival and living life to the fullest. Everyone can benefit from reading this novel because it teaches the readers a lot about how precious life is and about how we should make everyday count. There is also a love story between two characters in the book which can be relate-able to anyone who has grown up and who has had crushes and longed for their own happily ever after. What I really enjoyed about this story was the plot twist near the end of the novel. It is not predictable at all and it really shocks the readers and gives the entire novel a complete other take and it makes the book that much better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A teenage love story that's just too adorable to put down I picked it up because I'm a big believer in reading the book before watching the movie. One of the fastest reads I've ever done, I finished it in a few hours because of all the illustrations. Still a super cute story line though.
Date published: 2017-07-30
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Story! Interesting but cheesy at some points.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THE BEST CONTEMPORARY NOVEL! I had borrowed this book from the library, read the first book and was not interested. Then, I picked it up during the summer in read it in one sitting! This book took me places I never thought I could go. So happy I listened to all the hype and picked it up!!!
Date published: 2017-07-28
Rated 5 out of 5 by from *.* Charming, easy to read, funny, cute, lovable (is that a word?) just simply genuinely amazing *.* Ps: I want an Olli.
Date published: 2017-07-28
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quick and easy summer read. This book reminded me of Me & Earl & the Dying Girl, probably because of the quirky interjections throughout the story. This book could easily go down to 200 pages or less if it weren't for all the chapters with 2 lines worth of text. The storyline was cute and somewhat obvious, but if you just want a quick book you will pick up and be done in a few hours, this is the book for you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beware, do not pick this up... if you have other things planned. This book is hard to put down, good thing it's a quick read. It can be classified as 'predictable' but it is still worth reading. Very enjoyable and a good pick me up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great I borrowed this book from a friend and I managed to get it back to them in two days. The story was beautiful and definitely thought-provoking. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, especially since it was a pretty fast read. Perfect for getting out of a slump!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything, Everything Review This book...omg <3 ! Breaks my heart, makes me happy...it's just phenomenal. Nicola's writing style is so flawless and easy going... this style/layout of book really worked well with the subject matter (someone who is mostly alone drawing things, IMS, ect). I also loved that it was a 'family project', and her husband drew the amazing pictures for this novel. I would recommend this novel to anyone, it makes you feel a full spectrum of emotions, and makes you really question if you're living your life to the fullest. "Be brave, remember life is a gift"
Date published: 2017-07-24
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fast Read but Good One I picked up this book without knowing anything about it. I enjoyed it very much ! I liked how the author could get us into the main character's head! I work in genetics so I was very surprised to find out what the "diagnosis" was and the added unexpected twist made for a great ending.
Date published: 2017-07-24
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Honestly one of my favourites I watched the movie first but I knew that books are always better than movies and I was right. This was such an amazing book and my heart strings were definitely pulled at, not to mention it was really funny.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Meh! Started quite well but quickly became a cheese and predictable teenage love story.
Date published: 2017-07-22
Rated 3 out of 5 by from It was good It was extremely well written and I love that was some visual representations along the story. I didn't like the plot twist and thought the the 2/3 of the book wasn't very reaistic, the events were unlikely. I did love the 1/3 and 3/3 of the book. Overall I would read it again.
Date published: 2017-07-22
Rated 2 out of 5 by from ITS AN OKAY BOOK the book itself is a bit cliché you can predict whats going to happen
Date published: 2017-07-22
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not as great as it seems I picked this up wanting a dose of cheesy teenage romance which this book did deliver, but it was just a combination of too many cliches to feel authentic. In other words: this book simply lacked personality in my opinion.
Date published: 2017-07-19
Rated 5 out of 5 by from SO GOOD! I could not put this book down. I thought that it was so well executed, and Yoon did a wonderful job with this book. It was so captivating and I loved it so much. I think it's such a good book and is interesting. It also tackles family and how that life might not be easy. Also, just the way they interacted with each other was amazing. Such a good read.
Date published: 2017-07-18
Rated 5 out of 5 by from wow Such a simple yet inspirational little book...
Date published: 2017-07-18
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Everything, Everything Everything, Everything was okay, nothing memorable. It was definitely way too hyped up and didn't meet any of my expectations. Also, it was so predictable and the ending felt rushed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Could not put it down! LOVED THIS BOOK! It was a cute, quick young adult read that can be read by people of all ages (teens and up). Such an unique story about teenage love. It is not a sunshine and rainbows young love, this book shows the hardships of life, the challenges of growing up, and the unfortunate struggles of family abuse is different forms. HIGHLY recommend this book.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy, Light and a nice summer novel. I really liked the book! It was super easy to read and the story idea was very unique however the plot was a bit cheesy for my taste but it was bearable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Must Read This novel is just as beautifully creative as its cover art. Whether you have watched the film already and want to pick up the piece that started it all, or you want to pick up the original novel before watching the film, you'll fall in love with the story line. Recommended for ages 14+, due to one topic/scene in both the film, and novel. Highly recommended.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Alright, not as good as the movie suggest it would be This book was good, I liked the style it was written in, epigraphical almost. However the movie hyped it up for me and it was a let down because of that

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 10/10 I got this book because the movie looked absolutely adorable (and it was, might I add) so of course I had to read the book before I could watch it. I'm so glad I did cause not only did this book get me out of my reading slump, but it also got me out of my writing slump and inspired me to write again. I loved the little extra added illustrations and everything Nicola Yoon had that separated this book from so many others, including the story line. As soon as I finished everything, everything (which took me about a day and a half) I went out and bought Yoon's other book "The Sun is Also a Star", which I also recommend you read if you liked this book!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay While I'm not really one for contemporaries, I found the plot of this book very interesting. The writing style was a bit juvenile, though I suppose as much is to be expected from a YA novel.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not awful, but not great I really liked the plot of this novel, but Nicola Yoon's writing did not impress me at all. I found her characters flat, and descriptions not vivid at all. I would recommend to anyone who's just looking for a good story and doesn't care about nitpicky things.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good read A really nice, light read, but nothing amazing. Nicola Yoon is a great author - her writing style is very easy to get into, but the story itself was more of the star-crossed lovers kind of story, but with a bit of a twist as to why they're star-crossed. Worth the read if you want something fast and simple.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It was okay It was an okay read because there were some elements that I didn't like. I like the storyline in general, but it wasn't a book that wowed me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Predictable I did enjoy reading this book as a summer vacation read However, it is extremely predictable. I figured out the ending about a quarter of the way through. I am also not a fan of the way the author mixed in direct messages and other stuff in the story, I would rather just read the narrator show what is happening. It's entertaining, but nothing more.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It Was Alright I'm not a fan of contemporary novels such as this one, due to the predictability of all of them. This one was a pleasant surprise, mainly because the moment I thought I had it all figured out, PLOT TWIST! Overall, it was a cute book, especially with the little additions of emails and Maddie's spoiler reviews.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Now I don't need to see the movie I enjoyed the story and it was a quick read, sort of a beach book. Didn't see the twist coming, but it made sense. Overall I liked it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super cute, fast read! I enjoyed the flow of the story and the foundation of the characters and their relationship together was cute and fairly realistic. I looked at this book as more of a "modern day fairytale" so I accepted the more outlandish aspects of the story. This is definitely a book that would be great to read on the beach somewhere because its light (although it has its dark points), short, and insanely cute.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Story, Quick Read It's a good book overall, however it is a very quick and easy read. Definitely a good book for teens!
Date published: 2017-06-19
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Predictable This is a very fast read. The story itself is very predictable, the author tries really hard to make it something, I guess it worked because it is now a movie... To me this book is the very definition of the phrase "try-hard" Having said that if you want a 'fluffy' book to read in an afternoon this is it

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good story I really liked the beginning and middle, however I felt that the ending was too short (even though it was a good ending). From a huge discovery to the end.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is such a great story! This book is a page turner from beginning to end and I would recommend that everyone and anyone should read it!

Editorial Reviews

SELECTION: Miami Herald Best Books for Children, 2015PRAISE FOR Everything, Everything:"In her debut, Jamaican-American Yoon gives readers complex characters and rich dialogue that ranges from humorous to philosophical. This heartwarming story transcends the ordinary by exploring the hopes, dreams, and inherent risks of love in all of its forms." --Kirkus Reviews"Everything, Everything tells us something we will always need to hear, no matter our age: that it's not the risks of love or heartbreak that might end us. It's the fear of the pain we might experience along the way that keeps us trapped in our cocoons—or our white, decontaminated houses." --The New York Times Book Review"One of the most buzzed-about titles of the year. And, holy smokes, it's worth the hype. . . . Quietly profound, stoic and wry while still being both romantic and sad; think American Beauty meets Love Story with an ending that is both original and satisfying. MGM optioned the movie rights before publication so this is poised (deservingly) to be the next big thing." --The Globe and Mail"YA book lovers, your newest obsession is here . . . [Everything, Everything] is a quick, delightful read that plays on multiple mediums throughout, and it features a line-up of diverse characters with intriguing sets of complications and interests." --MTV
