Signed First Edition

The second thrilling installment of the award-winning Nevernight Chronicle, from New York Times bestselling author Jay Kristoff.

In a land where three suns almost never set, a ruthless assassin continues her quest for vengeance against the powers who destroyed her family.

Mia Corvere has found her place among the Blades of Our Lady of Blessed Murder, but many in the Red Church hierarchy think she's far from earned it. Plying her bloody trade in a backwater of the Republic, she's no closer to ending the men who destroyed her familia; in fact, she's told directly that Consul Scaeva is off limits. But after a deadly confrontation with an old enemy, Mia's suspicions about the Red Church's true motives begin to grow.

When it's announced that Scaeva will be making a rare public appearance at the conclusion of the grand games in Godsgrave, Mia defies the Church and sells herself to a gladiatorial collegium for a chance to finally end him. Upon the sands of the arena, Mia finds new allies, bitter rivals, and more questions about her strange affinity for the shadows. But as conspiracies unfold within the collegium walls, and the body count rises, Mia will be forced to choose between love and revenge, and uncover a secret that could change the very face of her world.

JAY KRISTOFF is the New York Times and internationally bestselling author of The Lotus War, The Illuminae Files and The Nevernight Chronicle. Rated 4 out of 5 by from I forgot how much I loved this series Oh my goodness, this books is super good, but super frustrating at the same time. Mia is a protagonist that you are wary of the entire time and you never truly know what she will or will not do for revenge. But even as she's so hungry for revenge, love still blooms, between her friends, her new family, and her new lover. Really well written, sarcastic, witty, and action-packed. I loved it. Spoilers below! I AM SO HAPPY FOR THE BEGINNING. Honestly, with about a year's wait between books, it's easy to forget and it's not like I always want to re-read the previous book(s) when I want to start reading the newest one, so I am so glad of the beginning introduction. He wrote it in a funny and amusing way while it was useful at the same time. A+ The cover looks Ammaaazziinggg. I didn't realise this until I spoke it aloud, but Godsgrave. It just seemed like a name to me and still does, but when I said it aloud I realised. Godsgrave. Gods grave. God's grave. ....whoops.... Anywho... to the story: I FORGOT HOW MUCH I LOVED MIA'S SHADOW DAEMONS. I LOVE MISTER KINDLY. AND ECLIPSE. AND WHEN THEY HAD THEIR LITTLE REUNION IN MIA'S CELL, I WAS SO OVERWHELMED. THEIR RELATIONSIP'S DYNAMIC IS SO BEAUTIFUL. IT'S LIKE A FAMILY. Not to mention that I love the banter between Mister Kindly and Eclipse. Furian died and now his shadow is in Mia's??? Do shadow daemons come from dead darkins? Was Tric a darkin? Is he now a shadow daemon? Or is he something else? I love how witty, fun, sarcastic, action-packed, and interesting Jay's narration is. Literal writing goals. I love the footnotes!!! I like Ashlinn now. Kinda. Mercurio is awesome. PLEASE LET THEM BE SAFE. What's with all this darkin mystery? I need answers. I didn't like Sidonius in the beginning, but.... he warmed up to me. I was so sad when he 'died'. I liked Mia, but I was going to like her less when she killed the other gladiatii. I was just waiting for it to all be a ruse or for them to revive or something. But they didn't and I lost all hope. UNTIL IT ACTUALLY WAS A RUSE. THEN I WAS ALL LIKE BUTTERFLY YE. WHOOO!!! I was so happy. I fully like Mia now. Bladesinger is also cool. And Bryn. I felt so horrible when Byern died. And when we were hoping that she crawled to victory, so that their deaths weren't for nothing, but she was too consumed by grief to do it? No one won anything and 7 people died. It was horrible. I felt so horrible. I want to see Wavewalker in the theatre. I need it. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT SCAEVA ESCAPED DEATH??? WHY??? AND MIA AND JONNEN ARE HIS OFFSPRING? AND JONNEN IS HIS SON??? I WAS LIKE WHHAAATTT. AOQHNDISGA.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BAAAAA-RUTAL! OH MY GAWD!...WHAT JUST-...I DONT UNDERSTAND--...OH MY GAWD! Oh my goodness, my heart is pounding. I just reread that last paragraph five times because I thought I like blacked out or something... *jaw dropped thinking* firstly, I'm concerning about my love of how aggressive this series is. This book is even more graphic when it comes to the sex and violence and I LOVE IT! I can't figure out what in the hell is happening cause I get so hyped up by the present events. You'd think with how easy it is to poison people that they'd be more careful about what they drink and eat and be prepared with antidotes but no. oh jesus, the next book is...I don't know what's gonna happen after that ending! This book also taught me to never read Jay Kristoff in public cause...sexy time happened without any warning and it is graphic! I kept giggling and looking at the people around me. I'm so interested to see what happens with the shadows and Mia's family! like what is the point of half her anger if this--... OH MY GAWD!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Brutal Bloodbath! When I read Nevernight last year it was bold, brutal and bloody. This pattern definitely continues in Godsgrave. The story seriously never lets up on the explicit details and intense twists. What an exciting yet nerve-wracking book. I found this sequel easier to get into than the first book. The refresher included at the beginning was a clever tool. It proved to be a big help in jogging my memories of events from Nevernight. Godsgrave is separated into three parts and while the formatting of each could get a little confusing, it kept me on track wanting to know. The footnotes were still present. Again they weren't really necessary and didn't contribute much to the book plot-wise. I will say the comic relief was there and it was interesting to learn more background to this big world. Mia, now officially a Blade of the Red Church, continues to search for ways to exact revenge on the two remaining people that mercilessly executed her loved ones. There was immense growth on Mia's part in Godsgrave as she made discoveries, forged alliances, conquered trials and killed her way to the top. I won't say much about the tournament except that it's everything you'd imagine but even bloodier. There's a shocker you need to brace yourselves for. Clever that it was never questioned until we got the answer in our face. It's literally a slap in the face for Mia. I thought things were bad already but wow they just got worse. I cannot see how this will ever end well for Mia. I am very skeptical and honestly a little upset with the romantic direction in Godsgrave. I cannot say since it's spoilery but I'm curious where Mr. Kristoff is taking things given a certain event that happens near the end of the book. Here comes more love drama lol... We're still nowhere near uncovering more about Mia's ability but I have to say, Mister Kindly and Eclipse were adorable! Not in a cute, fuzzy and huggable way but in a sharp tongue clashing, always fighting kind of way. Their jabs at each other were so fun to read; they even have nicknames for each other. It's definitely true love ;) While I'm slightly miffed about the cliffhanger ending I'm really dying inside for the final book. It's sure to be a bloodbath! I mean spectacle! I'm silently shaking with excitement just waiting for the title reveal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Heart Won't Stop Hammering No. No way it ends like that. I mean, I got to the last page and read about patience and knowing there's a third book. But NO!! How am I supposed to wait?! I can't wait!! I need to know what happens next! I'm dying here, torn open from this masterpiece. Blood and glory indeed. I didn't know how Kristoff would top the heart-pounding insanity of NEVERNIGHT, but not only did he do just that, he did so ensuring I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. He made me flip pages back and forth because I was reading twists that made my head spin. I couldn't stop reading. I'm addicted. We were granted more characters with deep backstories, engaging drama and suspense, heart-stopping betrayals, and an ending that shook my entire world. I fell back into a beautifully woven world, grinned at sarcastic one-liners and felt my heart break as Mia carved a bloody path toward her revenge. Mia... I love that girl. Am amazed at how she struggled, sacrificed, and became so much more than an angry assassin. I am honestly speechless at just how wicked those last ten pages were. My heart is still pounding. I cannot recommend this book or this series enough. It's cemented its place in one of my all time favourite reads with its expert writing, richly crafted world, addictive characters, and pulse-pounding action. Seriously, I will judge all gladiator battles by this book from now until the end of time. Add this book to your reading list NOW. It's so worth it.

But it is in fact bloodier, sexier, stabbier and badassier (just go with it) than Nevernight. Seriously, who knew that was even possible? Questions are answered, many more are asked and we are slowly fed more information about Mia's past. Prepare yourselves genltefriends, this book is a rollercoaster ride of emotion. I finished Godsgrave late at night and was propped up in bed like one of those clowns at the show, open mouthed, gasping and absolutely SHOOK. That ending is... 'NO HE DIDN'T' (yes he did)." -The YA Circle blog on Godsgrave"Kristoff has put together an excellent follow-up to Nevernight, and it will not disappoint....Things get more and more intense in just about every area of Mia's life, and it's all leading to a showstopping conclusion in book three. Godsgrave is a stylish, fast-paced and welcome return to the world of Nevernight." -Peter Newman, award-winning author of The Vagrant"Launching the Nevernight fantasy series, Kristoff (the Lotus War trilogy) creates a splendid world of corruption and violence. Kristoff portrays a world as rife with villains and treachery as the ancient Italian civilizations it echoes. Absorbing in its complexity and bold in its bloodiness, this beginning promises (and delivers) equal shares of beauty and decay. With a delicate balance of the ancient and the magical, this tense and brutal tale is unflinching, thrilling, and satisfying."-Publishers Weekly, starred review on Nevernight"A sensuous, shades-of-moral-gray world; a compelling, passionate heroine; a high-stakes quest for revenge-this is a fantasy fans won't be able to put down."-Kirkus Reviews on Nevernight"The world-building is delightfully detailed, its baroque flourishes supplied by sarcastic footnotes, but we are drawn through the narrative by Mia's triple quest: to rescue her family members, to avenge her father's death and to survive her education at the church, where the ultimate test is to avoid being killed by the training."-The Daily Mail on Nevernight"Kristoff's new fantasy series is off to a rollicking start."-Booklist on Nevernight"A very entertaining and well thought out story with a very readable main protagonist and her sidekick set at it's heart.... It's dark and twisted with a great streak of humour that softens some of the blows. An excellent start to series and one that I'm really looking forward to continuing with." -The Speculative Herald blog on Nevernight"The innovative setting, fast-moving plot, vivid descriptions, and thrilling action scenes make this a refreshing addition to the steampunk canon." -Publishers Weekly, starred review on Stormdancer"Soars higher than the arashitora Kristoff writes about; superb." -Kirkus Reviews, starred review on Stormdancer
