about

When it comes to love, they already know the rules…by heart.

Thirty-two and finally setting up her veterinary practice in the town she once called home, Emma Burnett is on her own and loving it. Independent and driven, she’s not letting any man get in the way of her dreams. Not again.

That’s fine with Luke McCormack. Divorced and hardly lacking in female company when he needs it, he’s devoted to the only faithful companion in his life—his police dog. Still, there’s something about Emma he can’t shake.

When a series of local break-ins leaves Emma vulnerable, she seeks help from the first man to spark her desire in years. And now they’re giving each other something they thought they’d lost forever…hope.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from An Average Romance This was the average, typical, small town romance that you would expect. Nothing more and nothing less. I liked both of the main characters individually as well as the relationship and chemistry between them. My one criticism is that I felt the ending was rushed. I felt that the relationship was going at a good pace for the majority of the novel, but at the end so much was happening and that the characters were resembling different personalities than who they started the novel as. Overall, this was an enjoyable and quick read but not one that I would necessarily recommend. If I did recommend it, it would be as a book to pick up from the library. It’s a good story but one that has been told many times before so there really isn’t much new to gain from it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hope Flames (Hope #1) by Jaci Burton The first 30% of the book was wonderful, but after that, the story dragged a lot to the point that I got bored and became frustrated with the slow pace. The book was overly long, given that there wasn’t much of a story to tell, which I had to skim through many pages just to finish it.The chemistry between Luke and Emma was sizzling like the summer heat. There was a lot of sexual tension which I could feel it instantly the moment their eyes first met.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A new series with hope and heart! Emma moved back home to take over the veterinarian practice and to start her life over again. She is recovering from an abusive relationship and has no plans to date anytime soon. As she’s closing up for the night, in walks a tall, dark and handsome police officer, Luke McCormack. His partner and police dog, Boomer, hurt his leg and needs medical attention. As Emma works on Boomer, Luke can’t help but notice how beautiful the new vet is. Still reeling from a bad marriage and divorce, he has no thoughts of getting serious, except when he’s around the sexy doctor. Can these two overcome their past demons and take a chance on love, or will past mistakes sabotage what could be a really beautiful relationship? I really enjoyed Jaci Burton’s Play by Play series but this new Hope series is my new favorite. I absolutely love small town books and damaged heroes who battle to overcome their past and become better by it. Emma and Luke are dynamite together. The both fought hard to not let the other get to close and both failed miserably. It’s always beautiful when two people can persevere and learn to trust again. I am not an animal person but I did love the animal aspect of the book. The dogs were cute and also played a pivotal role in Emma and Luke’s courtship. I also loved meeting the secondary characters and I’m looking forward to reading about their stories in future books. If you love hometown romances, and dogs, you’ll enjoy this book. A great start to an excellent series. ***I received an ebook copy from the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Entertained I've read a lot of jaci burtons play-by-play series and have loved everyone of them. I enjoyed this book but have to say that I found it very repetitive which led to some frustrating moments. It was very clearly mentioned that neither characters wanted to get involved in a relationship right from the beginning so I felt that the constant reminder of this fact was a touch overkill. But otherwise the storyline was good.
