Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing book !!! This book is simply fantastic for understanding the underpinnings of borderline personality disorder & how it affects a person's life. Very in-depth knowledge that's easy to understand & really demonstrates how people suffering from this disorder view & interpret the world around them. The {samples are helpful too in helping to understand their behaviour. Beyond that, the book even includes tips & tricks for being able to establish better communication with someone suffering from BPD & good descriptions of what kinds of help are available for them, ie what the different kinds of therapy target & how they tend to help. Overall, a very helpful book!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Interesting read I'm drawn to books about the psyche so I might be biased in my opinion of this book. I can understand how unfortunate it must be to have a loved one diagnosed with this, but it's absolutely fascinating how the mind of a borderline works. Point is made over and over again how often this personality disorder is misdiagnosed, and so patients aren't given appropriate or even sufficient treatment. It's quite sad how, like a child, borderline patients cannot constructively deal with their emotions in times of stress. This manifests into their relationships and ultimately has the potential to destroy them. There is hope though, because borderline patients can apparently be "cured". I don't know how much I agree with this, but if a patient works on eliminating even 1 out of the 5 characteristics that makes a borderline as per the DSM, then technically they do not have this disorder anymore. This can be argued of course. Great book nevertheless, with insight as to why certain treatments might work better than others, and a communication method on effectively dealing with someone who has borderline personality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A relief to read this book This book brought greater understanding to me and my husband about BPD. We have been scared, confused and very saddened by this condition in our family and were very badly equipped to handle this as parents. This book is very easy to read with plenty of examples. You do not need a degree in psychology to read this. It sheds light on the person experiencing this disorder, as well as helping family members learn some useful skills to manage their own lives more calmly.

Editorial Reviews

"...a book that may save you a lot of time and wasted, misguided pain in dealing with a loved one (with Borderline Personality Disorder)." -SystemsThinker.com "...a good resource for professionals and families, because it provides therapists with concrete ideas to incorporate both instruction and hope into their practice by providing patients and their families suggestions in simple, non-condescending language. It is by far the best book on the market on BPD." -Anita Biase, strugglingteens.com
