Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Fantastic Sequel Really, this book has left me with nothing but sheer awe for Stephanie Garber's knack for storytelling. Blow me over and pick me up because this was so worth the wait. I wasn't too sure what to expect, given the book jumps into a second Caraval game, but this stood well on it's own. For one, it's set not in a world created by Legend, but an actual city that bleeds Garber's typical style of whimsy. Although Legendary lacks the beautiful magic that made me love Caraval so damn much, this book more than made up for it with the introduction of the Fates. I love love LOVE this angle, and again it is an idea I wish I'd thought up first. They add a huge level of mysticism and myth to this world and series that I really hope features more in the third book. As with the first one, this one is so twisty and unexpected! I won't give away any spoilers, but we meet a certain someone and I DON'T BELIEVE IT! I refuse to. My new motto with this series is "trust no one," especially since things you thought were true in the first book are smashed to pieces. I was worried going into this because I saw a lot of people commenting on how much they dislike Tella. While I felt that way with the first book, in regards to her being selfish and self-centred, being inside her head has set me straight. Colour me a fan. I think I may even like her more than Scarlet, and that's saying something. She is stubborn and brave and driven by love for her mother and her sister. It may come off wrong, but her motives are genuine. As for the other characters, I was surprised by how glad I was Dante was back. I mean, I need so much more of that man lol! Same with Jacks. He was a pleasant and shocking treat. Anywho, I'll just be over here moping and waiting impatiently for book 3.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you liked the Caraval world, this one won't disappoint When I finish Caraval, I was sad Legendary wasn't out and I had to wait almost a year to get the sequel. In all honesty, it was a great second book. The fantastic world Stephanie Garber created is still filled with Legend's magic. You will wonder if it's real or not until the very end.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've read it three times in the last week! ITS JUST THAT GOOD!!! I read Caraval right before I read Legendary, and I was absolutely hooked! I love the flow and anticipation of Stephanie Garber's writing. I am so stoked to read the third book when it comes out!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Breathtaking and Romantic Sequel This book was so worth the wait! I wasn't really sure what to expect from LEGENDARY, but Stephanie Garber did not disappoint! Not only was I once again immersed in the mysterious and magical world of Caraval, Garber expanded on the world as a whole. For me, that was the highlight. I LOVED learning more about the different Fates and the stories behind them. But that didn't mean I wasn't loving everything else! The story is full of great twists and surprises (*coughLEGENDcough*), sweeping romance, and writing that leaves you desperate for more. As far as characters, while I was never a huge fan of Tella and her choices made me a little crazy sometimes (which, thankfully, Garber is quick to point out on the same page or so), I found her to be interesting and I enjoyed following her on her adventures. Jacks is creepy and, reluctant as I am to admit, sometimes sympathetic. But Dante was the one who snared me from the get-go. I kind of brushed him off in CARAVAL (there was Julian, after all), but he completely captivated me in this sequel, which makes the ending all the more powerful. I absolutely LOVE these books and need the third one now!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Recommend! I've found myself enjoying more and more books revolving around circus's. I read Caraval last year, and thought it okay enough to want to continue with the series. Legendary didn't disappoint. Descriptions and world building were well done, along with many magical elements. I couldn't put this book down because I never knew what would happen next. With that said, I did (unfortunately) predict the twist within the first 50 pages - it's only revealed in the last 10-15 pages of the book - so that was a bit disappointing. I also didn't enjoy our new MC (Tella) as much for how quickly she went gaga over a guy she hardly knew (can you tell yet that instalove just isn't my thing?). Now, I don't say this often, as I'm not always a fan of it, but I would have liked to have seen other character pov's in this book. It would have been nice to see what other characters were doing in their spare time, or even to just get into their heads. With that said, I found Legendary to be better written and executed than Caraval, so I'll be waiting with impatience for the last book!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible I recently read Caraval for the first time after putting it off for over a year, I don't know why I waited so long I fell in love with the story, the game and the world. I was incredibly excited to read Legendary and it was AMAZING. Absolutely incredible and now one of my all time favourite books. I flew through it and couldn't put it down. You cant trust anything you read. Legendary follows Tella, Scarlet's younger sister as she tries to find her mother who disappeared years ago. Tella has been in contact with a mysterious person in Valeda who can help her find her mother but in order for this person to give her her mother she needs to find out Legend's real name. She made a bargain with him and if she doesn't find Legend's true identity by winning the game she will lose everything, including her own life. The story picks up right where Caraval ended the morning after the ball. Caraval is doing something they have never done before, having two games in the same year one right after the other. Legend might have ulterior motives for this game, the players and Tella, who might just be the key. Is the game just a game or is it real this time? This story is a wild ride. Its full of twists and turns, deception, romance and magic. Not to mention a certain swoon worthy man, Dante. Oh Dante, Dante, Dante our favourite tatted bad boy hes such a mysterious character and you really have no idea what his motives are in this book. Is he playing just a game? or are his intentions true? You really cant trust anything you read. I wasn't sure if I was going to like Tella, she seemed a little flaky in Caraval but, my god, shes such an amazing character. Shes strong, sassy, saucy and determined, you'll be rooting for her. Tella has some hard decisions to make throughout the book and one that could determine the fate of Legend and bring hell upon the world. The book ends kind of open ended like there could be another book or that could be it. But it will make your jaw drop, like I said you can't trust anything you read. I really hope there is a third book from Tella's POV because you'll be wanting more, so much more. Or maybe even a book from Legends POV that would be amazing! The title is perfect for this book, this story is Legendary. I highly recommend it, if you loved Caraval you'll love this one even more. Thank you so much to Raincoast Books for gifting me a copy of Legendary for an honest review.
