Rated 5 out of 5 by from In Love! This book honestly, I had my doubts on reading this since I didn't really like Percy Jackson. Soon after reading a few pages, I instantly had no doubt on buying this book! Can't wait for the third book :))

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rick Riordan is great! I was so excited when it finally came out, I checked the mailbox twice everyday for a week before it finally came and I am very glad it did, it was full of suspense and great imagination.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Change of Interest Before this book series was introduced into the world, I didn't really like Percy Jackson which is related to greek mythology. I second doubted myself about buying this book, despite that, once I started reading the book I was instantly hooked and couldn't stop reading :))

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of my favourite Rick Riordan books I absolutely LOVED this book. It's much better than the Trials of Apollo series going on right now, and I would say its better than the original Percy Jackson series as well. Interesting story, with cool easter eggs for fans of other Riordan series, and amazing new characters. Also, i would say it's the funniest book I've ever read. It's so hard to write a comedy book, but Riordan had me laughing throughout.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a new generation this is probably something better suited to the newer fans of PJO. I was here at the start of Percy Jackson, and still nothing compares to those good ol' days. He was my hero, and Magnus Chase will be the new hero, and we just have to accept that :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Liked I really liked this book. Only 50% because the main character looks like Kurt Cobain. The rest is because I love Norse mythology and hilarious characters. #plumreview

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good book I loved this book. It wasn't the best, but only in comparrisson to Rick's other books, he's set a high bar for himself. Still an incredible book, with diverse characcters that you end up falling in love with

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent into to Norse mythology I really enjoyed reading this book. I have a working knowledge of Norse mythology, but this is a great into for young readers. My 10 year old daughter is already hooked on this series and she's only on chapter 3.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this new series I am a big fan of all things Rick Riordan so maybe it's no surprise that I love this new series. These books are funny and easy to read. I like to look up the characters mentioned to learn about the myths as well as I read. Definitely recommend!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sword of Summer The first book of Rick Riordan's third mythological series is good, albeit a protagonist we've seen before. Magnus Chase is a copy/paste of Percy Jackson, just a bit more miserable, but he acts and reacts in exactly the same ways, which makes the character mostly pretty bland. On the other hand, Samirah Al-Abbas is a slightly more interesting character. She's a muslim valkyrie, keeping her Norse-related duties a secret from her family. She has a problematic dad and a lot of issues related to that, but she's a pretty badass character overall, and, thank god(s), has a love interest that is NOT Magnus Chase. I'm giving it 4 stars (actually 3.5 would be closer to the truth), because as funny as it was, it definitely was not perfect. On the level of the mythology, I think it was interesting and relatively well-represented, unlike in Percy Jackson where he very openly mocks and is generally pretty rude to a lot of the deities and creatures. He could have done a better job regarding the Vanir, as he wrote them as being essentially useless and self-centered, but it is the only major fault that I can pinpoint from memory. Some of the more banal frost giants were also mocked, but they were already represented this way in the original mythology, so it is not a discrepancy on his part. Overall, it's a book worth reading, with actually clever and interesting antagonists, and a plot that is definitely interesting! To read for all those who liked Percy Jackson (hint: this one's even better, if you know the mythology!)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great I wasn't too disappointed in this book, but too be honest, it's not my favourite in the series.
Date published: 2017-01-08
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not as good as Percy Jackson Was looking forward to this one, and was unfortunately disappointed. Not as good as the Percy Jackson, Trials of Apollo or Heroes of Olympus.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loving it At first I thought I couldn't get into it because it was about the Norse gods and I was still so hooked on the Greek gods of Percy Jackson, but this book is great. Seems like a promising series! Especially the POC main character Sam

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stellar! I loved this book! It too me a while to get into it... but its so refreshing to learn more mythology.... I know a decent amount of Greek and Roman before reading the percy series but I know nothing of Norse Gods and its fun to get to know them a bit

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very good Norse mythology is hard to understand

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I loved this!! I was worried that this series wouldn't live up to Riordan's reputation, but boy was I wrong. it was absolutely amazing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rick Riordan does it again! Rick Riordan is a popular author in my household meaning we own almost every single book he has written. This one did not disappoint. My expectations were set quite high for this book as we anticipated its release. Rick did a great job making the story unpredictable, with many plot twists often leaving the reading wanting more. I loved learning about Norse mythology just like I did Greek, Roman and Egyptian. If you like Percy Jackson or Rick Riordan you'll love this book and the ones that will follow this (as he's making it a series).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great This is a really good book. Magnus is such and amazing character, and I love how Rick is continuing to add diversity in his books

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Read on a whim I bought this book on a whim because I liked the cover. I have never read any of Rick Riordan books before and now I am hooked. I have read this, and the second book in less than three days. Waiting for the third is going to be deadly. I'll probably re-read this and the second a few times before October 2017. I also bought tons of his books since reading this one. I just couldn't get enough or put the book down!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not bad at all! This was a pretty decent showing from Riordan. I didn't like it as much as percy Jackson but its like a billion times better then the Kane Chronicles. Looking forward to book two

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Novel I Would Reccommend to Many Others It's been a while I read this novel, yet the memory of when I read it remains intact in my brain, because I absolutely loved this book! Along with Rick Riordan's many other novels(Percy Jackson and the Olympians and The Heroes of Olympus) I believe he masterfully put the universe of Norse mythology in a manner that's fun for everyone to read. What I most love about this book, like the Percy Jackson series, is that its target audience is for anyone. The humour is as always amazing, making you absolutely love this novel. Anyone would enjoy this!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A fanatic beginning to a fun and exciting series. Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard is a fanatic beginning to a fun and exciting series. Magnus Chase follows Magnus as he's thrust into a world of unforgiving Norse Gods and must delay Ragnarok from beginning. Like all Rick Riordan books, Magnus Chase is a fun and delightful read packed full of adventure, action, and comedy. Emphasis on the comedy. I was laughing out loud numerous times. What makes Magnus Chase such a great read is that all the characters stand out because of their personalities. They're all wickedly witty and boisterous. I loved Magnus the most. He's older than most Riordan characters, which I thoroughly appreciated. It made him easier to identify with and adds a certain maturity to his actions. I also loved learning about the Norse Gods. It made a lot of things I've heard in real life make sense. For example, Valhalla and Ragnorok. I wasn't expecting to love Norse mythology as much as Greek, but Riordan has a way of creating an immersive experience that you can't help but love whatever world he builds. Overall, Magnus Chase is a wonderfully written adventure that will have you smiling from beginning to end. The characters jump off the pages to create a truly immersive experience. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! Rick Riordan did it again and gave us a beautiful story to start of his new series. I love Norse mythology thanks to J.R.R. Tolkien, and I think that Rick captured the essence of the old legends in a new, modern way that appeals to kids. I also like how his characters are diverse and different, much like our world today.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! It fills the Percy-shaped hole in my soul quite nicely. I also would like to try falafel now.
Date published: 2016-11-28
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Somewhat decent the plot wasn't that good, and it was definitely not as good as heroes of olympus
Date published: 2016-11-27
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good Not as good has the heroes of Olympus or Percy J, but still very funny and good.
Date published: 2016-11-26
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not a Percy Jackson remake Very different style of story, the dynamic between characters is very unique. If you are expecting something akin to the marvel representation of Thor and Loki think again, true to form Riordan relies on the actual mythology, not comic books. The opening plot twist is a killer, and takes a while for it to sink in. On par with Percy Jackson series thus far, but in it's own way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Book! As always, Rick Riordan was superb -- I hadn't heard much about Norse mythology before (save for what I had to study in class), but in the style and confidence that Riordan possesses when writing his books, I learned quickly about the Norse and their stories.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another fantastic series from Rick Riordan! I love Rick Riordan's books - I've read all of his previous series, including Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Heroes of Olympus, and The Kane Chronicles. I was so excited to see him start a new series, based on Norse mythology this time! A great book with excellent pacing and a balance between dialogue and action - I can't wait for the rest of the series!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great book! I loved this book! I liked the other series Rick Riordan has done, and I liked this book as well. It felt to me to be in a very similar fashion (but obviously with a completely different pantheon!) This version of the book also comes with a poster (I had no idea when I bought it- I clearly did not read the sticker) that is actually really cool. I hung it up on my wall.
