about

Nobel Peace Prize winner and New York Times bestselling author Malala Yousafzai's first picture book, inspired by her own childhood.

* "This is a wonderful read for younger students that will also provide insight and encourage discussion about the wider world. ... The simplicity of Yousafzai's writing and the powerful message she sends, make this book inspirational for all."
--- School Library Journal (starred review)

Malala's first picture book will inspire young readers everywhere to find the magic all around them.

As a child in Pakistan, Malala made a wish for a magic pencil. She would use it to make everyone happy, to erase the smell of garbage from her city, to sleep an extra hour in the morning. And even if she never found a magic pencil, Malala realized that she could still work hard every day to make her wishes come true.

This beautifully illustrated volume tells Malala's story for a younger audience and shows them the worldview that allowed Malala to hold on to hope even in the most difficult of times.
Malala Yousafzai was born in 1997 in the Swat Valley of Pakistan. In her short lifetime, she has already experienced devastating changes in her country, which has been transformed from a once peaceful land to a hotbed of terrorism. Malala, who now lives in Birmingham, England, says she has been given a second life, which she intends to...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Beautiful Story About Hope and Peace A beautiful picture book, written by Malala Yousafzai about life under the Taliban, her own story (but for young readers, nowhere does she mention what happened to her, just that they tried to stop her from going to school). Lovely illustrations and a book about hope.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inspiring Malala's Magic Pencil is a very cute and age appropriate account of Malala Yousafzai's life. Malala is one of my all time heroes - as an educator, educational rights are near to my heart and it is so inspiring to see such a young person stand up and fight for gender equality. I believe this book is an excellent resource for teachers and parents to begin the conversation of education and gender equality early on with our children. After all, they are the future of our society so it is never too early to start informing young people...Malala is proof that a child truly can change the world.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great way to introduce serious topics to young children I bought this book for my niece who is turning four. At first, I was a bit sceptical about how Malala would describe her experiences to a very young audience. However, the words and the images are perfect for 3-5 year olds. It is a beautiful, meaningful book.
