Bringing together Lewis’ legendary broadcast talks during World War Two from his three previous books The Case for Christianity, Christian Behavior, and Beyond Personality, Mere Christianity provides an unequaled opportunity for believers and nonbelievers alike to hear this powerful apologetic for the Christian faith.

Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably one of the most influential writers of his day. He was a Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Oxford University until 1954, when he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge Univer...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Would recommend - very good I was intrigued by this book because of C. S. Lewis' journey with faith and had purchased it. Definitely a good read - while some of the examples/sayings are a tiny bit dated, his reasoning and perspectives on numerous subjects is very interesting and different. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Worthy Introduction to Lewis In all honesty Mere Christianity is not one of my favorite works by Lewis. That said, Mere Christianity provides a more than solid and accessible introduction to the world of Lewis' non-fiction writings. While other Lewis went in to far greater depth into his views on Christianity and faith in some of his other works, Mere Christianity provides an entry-level survey on a selection of theological themes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clear and concise This is a great concise account of Christianity. Easy to digest

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, straight forward, helpful I thought this would be a difficult read, as many people quote Lewis and he sounds quite erudite. Lewis is very smart, but I found this book is easy to read. Helped me understand what Christianity is about, without someone preaching at me. He treats the reader like they are intelligent, not like they are some uneducated sinner. He has a bit of dry wit which is always fun to come across.

But even if you don't have questions before reading you should still read it. I recomend this book to everyone as it creates great conversations and has a bit of witt thrown in there too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! Great introduction to Christianity, although Lewis does assume you have some working knowledge of the religion. A recommended read for all Christians - I really loved the way he described a lot of things. Insightful and fresh, despite being decades old. A great read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Indispensable Little Book Put simply, 'Mere Christianity' is a short, lucid introduction to Christianity. Lewis moves first from a form of the moral argument for God's existence through an explanation of Christian teachings and doctrines with a concluding explication of what it means to be a Christian. This brief summary, however, does absolutely no justice to the content of this powerful book. Lewis enjoys a command of the language like few other authors and he employs it here with unmatched deftness. His insights are indelibly penetrating; the movement of his thinking prevails over and over. The result is something altogether astounding, so full of spiritual acuity that it becomes an indispensable little book; to be read again and again with insight to be treasured anew with each read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great insight into what Christianity is all about. Lewis has a way of making philosophical and theological ideas understandable in very simple terms for ordinary people. Here he offers a non-denominational view about what mere Christianity is really all about, and he goes to the core. I recommend this to both the agnostic searching for meaning and the Christian seeking after true discipleship.

Editorial Reviews

“It is not surprising that Lewis’s time-proven views are still flourishing while most other mid-20th-century works are nearly neglected.”
