Rated 5 out of 5 by from good book book is neatly organized in chapters and the last chapter heals everything in one piece

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Modern, Impactful and Beautiful This is an amazing read. It is a modern type of poetry, so if anyone is here for some long, classical written sonnets I would keep looking. However, all the things Kaur talks about in this book such as sexual assault, love, relationships, family etc. are very real topics that are approached in a beautiful way. I read this book in about 2 hours, could not put it down. I still go back to it time and time again, to get those feelings that the poems bring out in me. If you still feel unsure about purchasing it, just check her FB or IG, she posts a lot of her poems there. Enjoy!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Bad but Not For Me This is a tough one to review. There are a few poems in here that I loved! But it was just a small few. I feel like maybe at a different time in my life I may have related to it a bit more but unfortunately I just did not. I feel like if you have suffereed from abuse, have recently gone through a bad breakup or are in a tumoltous relationship then you may enjoy this more then I did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from INCREDIBLE! This was the first time I've ever sat down and read an entire book of poetry, and I would so recommend this book to anyone looking to get into poetry. The verses are so beautiful and poignant. The illustrations that accompany some of the poems are really nice touches too. I would without a doubt read it again. There are some poems that didn't speak to me, but others that felt as if she wrote exactly how I felt at certain moments in my life. I think that every young woman should find time to read this book. It was exceptional.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing book. I got this book given to me as a gift from my loved one. It was such an amazing read and I love the poetry.
Date published: 2018-05-09
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Devoured I liked this book of poetry. The writer takes us through the stages of relationships; I didn't feel they were all about romantic partners, I found myself thinking of family and friends sometimes. It is a bit choppy and I appreciate the other reviewers strong warnings and pointing out the simplicity of some of the poems, but I think you can come up with your own meanings as well.
Date published: 2018-05-08
Rated 3 out of 5 by from A little too simple Although there were some thought-provoking and deep poems, most of it seemed a little too simple. Was hoping for a little bit more

Date published: 2018-04-30
Rated 5 out of 5 by from In awe. I bought this book thinking hey might as well right it's only 15$ and I had hear good things, but when I actually sat down to read it, I was in awe at how relatable and understood I felt. It draws you in, empowers you to be the best version of yourself.
Date published: 2018-04-29
Rated 1 out of 5 by from No depth, tumblr type ramblings The only passages that aren't basic are ones to do with race/immigration/family. Otherwise, you probably won't connect unless you're a 16 year old who has had their heart broken for the first time.
Date published: 2018-04-24
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Addicted to Kaur This is one of those poetry collections you can breeze through in half an hour, hanging off of every word. I've gone back multiple times to reread it and get something new out of it each time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This book touched my soul This book touched my soul. Honestly Milk and Honey was the first poetry book I’ve ever read and with every poem I read, I dove deeper into the complex emotions. There was a poem written every couple of pages that I felt like I could relate too. It made me stop and read the poems out loud to my friends so they could enjoy the beautiful words too. “do not look for healing at the feet of those who broke you” I was always nervous that I wasn’t going to completely understand the book because a lot of times, poems can be hard to decipher. But, I’m glad to say it was very nice and easy to comprehend, which made me love it even more. Milk and Honey pulled at my heart strings. There were 4 sections of poems all together called: The Hurting The Loving The Breaking The Healing With these 4 categories I was taken on a journey of ups and downs, disappointment, happiness, sadness. The negative and positive thoughts became equal. Discussing topics that people don’t like saying out loud. Feminism is a big part of these poems as well. Trying to ease our female minds with wisdom and advice, it really made me stop and think long and hard. “how you love yourself is how you teach others to love you” Thank you Rupi, you have enlightened me a lot during my journey through Milk and Honey. I can’t wait to continue on with her other book that was recently released. 5 stars for the amazing emotional connection I got whilst reading this magnificent book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Felt Connected I heard from a co worker that she loved Milk and Honey, and that she would even bookmark poems that connected with her and she would reread them every now and then, the great thing was I got this as a birthday present a week later and my co worker was definitely right. The poems in the book show different stages of her life, which I definitely connected with. The poems were inspirational and heartfelt, and there are poems within the book that I always end up going back too. Definitely a must read!
Date published: 2018-03-08
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not great I thought after all the hype I would give this book a read. I don't read poetry so perhaps this is why I didn't enjoy it. The words and content were not speaking to me as they do in most books. Couldn't connect at all with it.
Date published: 2018-03-07
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The beginning This book started it all...the beginning of my poetry obsession. Throughout this book, you will feel every emotion imaginable. Something I love about it is that I can read it over and over, and each time, a different meaning of my own is ascribed to the poetry. Kaur wrote about her own experiences and yet, you will most likely be able to relate to many. This gives a sense of empowerment, and a feeling that you are not alone. In terms of the structure of writing, it is an easy read. BUT, as a warning, the context of some of the poems do contain highly sensitive content. personally though, I would definitely recommend.
Date published: 2018-03-05
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Way over hyped for very average poetry I bought this book awhile ago after seeing pictures of a few poems on twitter. After a bit into the book I quickly realised that those pictures I seen were everywhere because they were pretty much the only highlights of the book. This book wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. Very average.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The power of words "Your art is not about how many people like your work your art is about if your heart likes your work if your soul likes your work it's about how honest you are with yourself and you must never trade honesty for relatability" - Rupi Kaur In reading these pages and the reviews of this collection by rupi kaur, I thought to myself, what makes a good poem, who decides what is poetry and what is not? I don't think there is a simple or one answer to this. Poetry is self-expression and I don't think we are in any position to judge anyone's words, experiences and emotions. This collection is raw, open, honest, heart breaking and optimistic. The sentiment on self love echoed in these poems and the untapped strength within all of us is something so universal and beautiful. Thank for making me see that, Rupi Kaur

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful This book got me interested in poetry. I love Rupi Kaur; lovely.
Date published: 2018-02-27
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the hype. Rupi Kaur gets a lot of smack. But I truly believe that poetry is a very individual experience and also, that you have to be willing to let yourself be consumed by the words. If you dedicate yourself to feeling what Kaur felt, and relating it to your own experiences, it will be a worthwhile read. Her poetry about femininity, race, love and heartbreak are so eloquently written in so few words. Her drawings only add to it, and are just beautiful as well. Talented, talented writer. Loved this book and if you haven't read her second one, The Sun And Her Flowers, I recommend that as well.
Date published: 2018-02-27

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am glad I decided to give this book a try I've never read a poetry book before, so I wasn't sure what to expect with this. I had feared that it wouldn't hold my attention and that I wouldn't enjoy it. I decided, however, to give into the intrigue and picked up a copy at my local Chapters. I'm glad I did. I found myself flipping page after page, eager to experience the feelings in the upcoming lines. Any writing that can elicit such emotion is A1 in my book. This book is strong and powerful and I have much respect for the author for writing this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Every woman should have a copy! The cover is what initially caught my attention, I spent a few minutes going through the pages of the book and had to buy it. Im sure any woman can read this, and relate to some of the poetry; from heartache, pain and suffering to healing and finding love again. This book stays by my bedside and I go back to it over and over. For those of you who are unsure about the content, borrow it from a girlfriend or pop into an Indigo location, find a spot and see if you'll love it like I did!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful, Thought-provoking poems I really loved this collection of poems. I thought they were beautiful and thought-provoking, I often put down the pages to reflect on the poem I just read. Really loved it!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not what I expected I bought the book because it was so hyped and I personally enjoy spoken word. It wasn't what I was expecting at all. A bit too expressive for my liking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like the Title says, it really is Milk and Honey I've heard about this book for a while but I never brought myself to actually buy it. A friend lent it to me and I was overblown by the power in this woman's words. I am completely sold, I love what she writes about and as a woman of colour seeing another woman of colour being a successful writer, I am so happy to enjoy and support her work. Highly recommend, the book touches the soul.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from a great poetic book Bought it because I've been wanting to have a copy of this. Then by the time I flipped the very first page, I couldn't even put it down. It was too late for me to notice that i actually finished the whole book within a short amount of time since other parts are too short. I even marked the pages that I mostly liked and definitely touched me! 4 stars because some parts are kinda unclear to me. But yeah, it is still one of the great poetic book i've ever read.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Meh I have nothing against the messages the book gives--I fully support it. However, I'm not sure how this is poetry. Maybe I just don't get it, or maybe poetry is not about rhyme schemes or stanzas or haiku structures... Whatever it is i certainly don't think it qualifies as poetry no i do not

Rated 3 out of 5 by from way to over hyped this books was nice but I wouldn't say it's amazing. There was just to much hype around it

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Meh Some poems are really strong and make you feel some type of way, but others are just a sentence broken up into parts...kind of a waste of space

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the Best Purchases I've Ever Made This is the most relatable book I have ever read. When I first got it I flipped to a random page (140-141), and had tears rolling down my cheeks while reading it aloud to my mom. I'm a 19 year old girl who has gone through SO much pain and though this book makes me cry from me relating to it so much, it has now become my favourite book to read and has inspired me to start writing poetry again. I love it so much that I bought the hardcover copy after purchasing the paperback. If you're a girl who has gone through so much pain in your life, this is definitely a book you need to buy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Commendable topics, bland style I found the topics that Kaur writes about in her poetry, as well as the reflection on personal struggles, to be commendable. However, the poetry didn't flow as well as I would have liked and the style was too bland for my taste.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I don't see the overhype... I have a tremendous amount of respect for all authors, especially my fellow Canadian writers. However I don't see the over hype for this book or any of the other book . I became interested in this book through the power of social media, when I see people posting pictures and quotes on their timeline about how relatable some of the stuff that's being said in the book is. I shortly afterwards discovered the author and was so excited to purchase this book and all of the other ones she has written. I was more than disappointed once the books arrived and I skimmed through and saw what was on there. This is given 4 stars because someone did work hard on this book and it's not their fault that society has over-hyped this book for disappointment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a powerful book! This whole book talks about some pretty big topics but I think the author did it in a really good way. The poems were quick and easy to read while also being full of heavy material. It was interesting to read such a short book while also feeling like it was really long. I'm looking forward to reading her other work!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SO TOUCHING :') "love will come and when love comes love will hold you love will call your name and you will melt sometimes though love will hurt you but love will never mean to love will play no games cause love knows life has been hard enough already" *this was my favourite poem* This was my first poetry book, so I read it twice. It was an inspirational and so touching book :') I guess everyone struggles with something in their life, but as Rupi Kaur said "there is sweetness everywhere if you are just willing to look"
