In a mega-stakes, high-suspense race against time, three of the most unlikely and winning heroes Stephen King has ever created try to stop a lone killer from blowing up thousands.

In the frigid pre-dawn hours, in a distressed Midwestern city, hundreds of desperate unemployed folks are lined up for a spot at a job fair. Without warning, a lone driver plows through the crowd in a stolen Mercedes, running over the innocent, backing up, and charging again. Eight people are killed; fifteen are wounded. The killer escapes.

In another part of town, months later, a retired cop named Bill Hodges is still haunted by the unsolved crime. When he gets a crazed letter from someone who self-identifies as the “perk” and threatens an even more diabolical attack, Hodges wakes up from his depressed and vacant retirement, hell-bent on preventing another tragedy.

Brady Hartsfield lives with his alcoholic mother in the house where he was born. He loved the feel of death under the wheels of the Mercedes, and he wants that rush again. Only Bill Hodges, with a couple of highly unlikely allies, can apprehend the killer before he strikes again. And they have no time to lose, because Brady’s next mission, if it succeeds, will kill or maim thousands.

Mr. Mercedes is a war between good and evil, from the master of suspense whose insight into the mind of this obsessed, insane killer is chilling and unforgettable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Read It was a good read,,some what lacking what king is all about,,not too much of his uncanny sense of horror in this novel,,,alittle bit of his demented side,,still worth the read

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just okay I read this book expecting a different kind of King. With this said, it was an enjoyable read but I thought the plot lacked originality and was rather predictable. Will probably read Finders Keepers as I liked the characters.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great book Read a couple of Stephen Kings Books I remember the first one I was in HIGH SCHOOL and it was MISERY!!!! yeah I started with this one. and there was part of a book in one of my high school english magazines.... I read that too.... and then I tried other authors other genres. I reconnected with him with 11/22/63 which was different enough but I liked it anyways! I saw the book cover for Finder's keeper and I was intrigued... got on my kobo and saw it was the second book in the trilogy I decided to try it and OH was I surprised from the very first line I was hooked.... now i`m half way there and I can`t wait for FINDER'S KEEPER. that can give you an idea! he never dissapoints :) great author

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of King's Best! Stephen King gets better with age with no sign of slowing down the creative writing energy that he has foisted upon us over five decades. The Maine man can write anything and transform it into something unique and special. Mr. Mercedes is King's suspense crime noir novel that has fascinating characters, a unique villain and plot-turns like you have never seen. I just loved it and cannot wait to read the sequel Finders Keepers'.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Once again the Master of Macabre has managed to take us on a journey that touches our human emotion and still makes you wonder how you would deal with the situation. Real page turner, with out to much horror, but lots of innuendos .....

Editorial Reviews

“. . . barrels toward a memorable conclusion. King’s work has almost always gotten lost in translation on the big screen, but his tense, propulsive, ultra-fast-paced climax here seems like it was written with the movie in mind.”
