about

I'm grim and grumpy," says Small to Large, "and I don't think you love me at all." But nothing could be further from the truth - and Large knows just how to reassure Small in this warm and tender story about a child's biggest worry and a parent's endless capacity for love.
DEBI GLIORI has illustrated many beloved picture books, including Joyce Dunbar's Tell Me Something Happy Before I Go to Sleep and Tell Me What It's Like to Be Big, along with her own No Matter What and Penguin Post. She lives near Edinburgh, Scotland.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful message I purchased this for my daughter as her father would be travelling a lot. I love the message in this story. The illustrations are beautiful and the fact that both the characters, "Large" and "Small" are gender neutral makes this story relatable for any family dynamic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet but not saccharine My 13 month old has been requesting this book every night at bed time recently. We both love it (and I imagine she'll continue to love it as she gets older and understands the words better with time). Her attention is better held with rhyming books (as opposed to those that aren't), and I like the comforting message, plus the fact that there's one parent and one child, neither of whom have an implied gender, so it's accommodating for a variety of family dyads. (In my humble opinion this book should be way more popular than "Guess How Much I Love You".)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely Story I bought this for my little boy when he was just a little baby, and we've been reading it for nearly six years regularly. It's such a sweet story and is so reassuring for little ones to hear that no matter what, you will always love them. A friend mentioned it was the first book she noticed that didn't make reference to a mom/dad but instead just big small - good for alternative families! I've bought this book consistently for friends and family who've had babies and it's always been a hit!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heartwarming! I found this book in the store and bought it for my nephew as I thought it's message was very heartwarming and stressed unconditional love. It's become one of his favourites and I've since gifted it to two other little ones.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Charming and sweet story "Small" fox is not sure of his parent's affection, and "Large" fox is quick to reassure him of his unconditional love whether Small is an icky bug, a cranky grizzly bear or even far away. The warm colors of lovely illustrations add to the cozy charm of this story.
