about

(A standalone Heartbreaker Bay novel)

Choose the one guy you can’t have . . .

As captain of a San Francisco Bay tour boat, Pru can handle rough seas—the hard part is life on dry land. Pru loves her new apartment and her neighbors; problem is, she’s in danger of stumbling into love with Mr. Right for Anybody But Her.

Fall for him—hard . . .

Pub owner Finn O’Riley is six-foot-plus of hard-working hottie who always makes time for his friends. When Pru becomes one of them, she discovers how amazing it feels to be on the receiving end of that deep green gaze. But when a freak accident involving darts (don’t ask) leads to shirtless first aid, things rush way past the friend zone. Fast.

And then tell him the truth.

Pru only wants Finn to be happy; it’s what she wishes for at the historic fountain that’s supposed to grant her heart’s desire. But wanting him for herself is a different story—because Pru’s been keeping a secret that could change everything. . . .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Group of Characters I really enjoyed this one. Another great group of characters; Jill seems to always be good for that! I’m giving this 4 out of 5 stars. I liked Pru a lot. She’s down to earth, funny, and can handle pretty much anyone…and anything. Finn sounds sexy as heck, and so does Sean…and a few other locals. Basically, read this book to see all the male glory haha. Being a bar owner seems to be a thing for several of Jill’s characters (I’m way behind on her books), not that I’m complaining. Thor was super adorable. Eddie is a pretty fun character, although he’s not a huge part of the book overall. And then there’s the core group of friends that I enjoyed…and who I’m pretty sure are most, if not all, of the main characters in the rest of this series. I can’t wait to read more about them! I’ll admit the book was kind of predictable, and I wasn’t really surprised by anything. However, I still loved it. The characters made up for everything else in spades. Check this book out if you like a funny contemporary romance!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sexy but Frustrating at Times I'm always up for a fun romantic time and I had heard the Heartbreaker Bay books were just that so I picked up the first three books when they were on sale. Sweet Little Lies was really easy to read although a little more angst-y than I liked for my usual romance read. Pru is a rare breed of a girl. She's so selfless, always thinking of others never herself. For all her goodness though I was extremely frustrated with her keeping the truth from Finn. She had ample opportunities to tell him but no, she doesn't do it. Who could really blame him for his reaction after how close they became. Finn was a sweet love interest but maybe a little too sweet given the short time he's known Pru. I very strongly wanted to love them as a couple but their relationship just developed too fast to be convincing. They did have sizzling chemistry though. I love the setting of the book. The apartment complex with its various colourful residents provided comedic relief to the sadder more serious issues at hand. The side characters were an absolute riot. The older tenants had me laughing so hard. Some of the things that came out of their mouths... Oh boy. Finn's tight-knit group of friends was another highlight in Sweet Little Lies. They joked and played around a lot but they were always present during times of need. Ms. Shalvis does an excellent job bringing them into the story. I loved how distinct they were next to each other. They were all pretty amazing and supportive in their own way. Sweet Little Lies was a fun introduction to the Heartbreaker Bay series. While I didn't completely fall in love with this particular story, I really enjoyed the characters and can't wait to see more of them in future books :)
