about

The first book in the Body Finder series from Kimberly Derting is equal parts romance and mystery.

Sixteen-year-old Violet is hiding two secrets. The first is her confusing new feelings for her childhood best friend Jay. The second is her unusual ability to sense the dead...and the people who killed them. Violet has never considered her morbid ability to be a gift, but when a serial killer begins terrorizing her small town, Violet realizes she may be the only person who can stop him.

Ever protective of her, Jay agrees to help Violet, and as they search, Violet realizes she isn’t the only one whose emotions have changed. But as they fall in love, Violet is also getting closer and closer to discovering the killer...and becoming his prey herself.

The Body Finder is the compulsive first book in the four-book Body Finder series by Kimberly Derting.

Kimberly Derting is the author of the Body Finder series, the Pledge trilogy, and the Taking series. She lives in the Pacific Northwest, where the gloomy weather is ideal for writing anything dark and creepy. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favourite series I love how this series is creepy, but also romantic at the same time. The chemsitry between violet and jay was wonderfully on point. The blurb above about the book is really spot on. Honestly one of the best series I've read, and I've read a lot of books. Do yourself a favour and read it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Criminal Minds meets YA Criminal Minds meets YA Fiction is how I would categorize this novel therefore equalling an awesome book for me. One of my favourite parts about this series was the chapters that were written in the point of view of the killer it was like I was hearing Dr. Reed telling his team just how the killer work and why he did the things that he did. I really like how Kimberly did this. I also liked Vi and Jay relationship. It makes me wish I grew up with a childhood best friend that I would always stay best friends with. I’m so jealous of them. I love how their relationship evolves over the novel and how relationships with their mutual friends develop as well. It was a quick read but for a Criminal Minds lover, I couldn’t imagine it any other way. Vi has some of the funniest girlfriends a girl can ask for. I loved Chelsea she made me laugh every time she opened her mouth. The last 10 pages left me breathless than I let out a giant “thank god” – which the boyfriend totally looked at me like I was on something. I was this close (pretend that you are seeing my fingers show you a very very small space) to bawling my eyes out

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Freaky and Fantastic. Yikes. This was the freakiest book that I've read in awhile. I knew I was going to read this one after reading the preview on amazon.com, which describes when Violet first discovered a buried little girl in the woods. Violet was only eight years-old when she found the body. She could sense something calling her to that area, and she starting digging through the leaves and uncovered the face a young girl staring up at her. After reading the prologue, I knew I was going to continue with the book, it was so freaky that I was instantly hooked. This book has everything I love: Intense suspense (Who is killing the girls?), romance (Jay and Violet), and its freaky and original. I haven't read anything like this before. What I loved most about this book were the descriptions of Violet and Jay's relationship over the years. The stories of their childhood and exploring the forest and naming the paths and trails. Their childhood experiences were so familar to me, because it was exactly what I did as a kid. They are always joking around and teasing each other, it was a fun relationship to read. I love them. I can't wait to read the next two books. I put off reading this book because of the lame cover. I also didn't think it would be very good because it was Derting's first book...but I was so wrong. This book is great. Check it out. Random: -Don't let the lame cover prevent you from reading this book. The cover seems really flowery and cheery, which doesn't represent the book at all. -Kimberly Derting wrote the book "The Pledge", which is an awesome book too. Check it out if you liked "The Body Finder".
