One of the classic fantastical adventures of all time!

William has just received the best present of his life—an old, real-looking stone and wooden model of a castle, with a drawbridge, a moat, and a fingerhigh knight to guard the gates. It’s the mysterious castle his housekeeper has told him about, and even though William is sad she’s leaving, now the castle is his! William can’t wait to play with the castle—he’s certain there’s something magical about it. And sure enough, when he picks up the tiny silver knight, it comes alive in his hand! Sir Simon tells William a mighty story of wild sorcery, wizards, and magic. And suddenly William is off on a fantastic quest to another land and another time—where a fiery dragon and an evil wizard are waiting to do battle. . . .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Castle in the Attic I read this book when I was about 10 or 12.. and drew my mother a picture based on it which she's hung over her bed for the last 20 years or so. I was super excited to find the book at a sale and give it a re-read and enjoyed it as much as a 33 year old as a 12 year old. I will now be passing it on to my 12 year old to read :) Full of adventure and fun.

From Our Editors

William's house is like any other kid's. It has the same old rooms, a kitchen and an attic. Up in the attic, William's housekeeper tells him there's a magical model-castle. William finds it and senses there's something unusual about the small structure with its realistic wood and stone surfaces and knight at the gate. In Elizabeth Winthrop's The Castle in the Attic, the little knight comes to life when William puts the figure in his hand. Panting into existence, the little man tells William about the perils, including a sinister dragon and an evil wizard, in his land. Will William help, he asks?
