Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loved with one Exception I really enjoyed the story line and it was a quick read, but I have to say that I was entirely distracted by the overuse of the word "whilst". It seems like it was used in every second paragraph. Other than that - a good read.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from An extreme and engaging take on Abandoment The author did an excellent job of portraying a character (Juliette) with abandonment issues stemming from unresolved Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder brought on by childhood trauma. This allowed for the character to remain sympathetic for most of the books, despite her increasingly erratic behavior. Unfortunately, the ending fell flat and it felt like the author ran out of steam. I would have preferred a more resolved conclusion.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not what I was expecting, disappointing. I bought this book thinking it would be equivalent to Gone Girl, but the storyline was just unrealistic and frustrating to read. The author tried to intertwine all these characters stories together but most were unnecessary. I kept reading the book thinking I would be encapsulated somewhere and there would be the ultimate plot twist but, it never happened and it also left you hanging and disappointed at the end.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfectly Disturbing Sweet Juliette loves Nate! Nothing in the world will stop her from being with him. Not even Nate breaking up with her, 6 months ago…. I mean who does he think he is? Doesn’t he realise what he just gave up? Juliette knows she has met the love of her life. She will go to any length to be as close as possible, at all times. She even started working as a flight attendant with the same airline Nate works for. Nate is just clueless and Juliette will show him! He will be hers! “Stick to the plan, fail to plan, plan to fail”. 5 out of 5 stars Such an easy, brilliant read! I cannot believe this is Karen’s fist novel. She was meant to write! I know that Juliette is deranged and really you shouldn’t be rooting for her but Karen wrote her character so so well. I found at times I was feeling bad for her and the situation she was in. That is when you know you have discovered an amazing author, when they can make you feel, even for the “bad guys” in the story. This book was so intense! Just when I thought I had figured out where the story was going a twist was thrown in. This happened multiple times throughout the novel. Karen’s writing constantly had me stretching my brain, so many incredible shifts in the story! Yet even with the fast pace, exciting story I kept up throughout. Karen’s writing was so smooth and flawless. I am excited to see what Karen creates next! “I don’t believe that opposites attract; I’m sure it’s a myth”. If you are looking for a book that is in the genre of "Gone Girl" or "The Girl on the Train" then this book ranks with those. A great effort by a new author!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Enjoyable Read! I really enjoyed this book! I found it gripping, and got through it rather quickly. While some details were a bit predictable, I didn’t find myself upset that I had figured it out the way I am with other books. It was predictable but not in a way where you’re bored with the storyline. The ending was a bit too abrupt for me— not as bad as The Woman in Cabin 10 (which was awful), but not as clean as I would have liked. I’d pick up other books by this author, I enjoyed her writing style throughout the majority of the novel. Overall, I would recommend this book!

Agree with last review by Melanie... felt like a waste of money. Writing isn't bad, easy enough to read. Some interesting perspectives into the mind of a sociopath. But I also thought it was overall, boring and predictable. I kept reading, thinking the story would further develop but it didn't... at all. By the time I finished, I actually had to ask... so what was the point of this novel? It wasn't really an ending... it was like... a long blog. Not sure what the "story" was...

However, I couldn't put it down and finished it in 2 days. I highly recommend if you're looking for a quick entertaining read. You also learn some interesting bits about the airline industry as the author was formerly a flight attendant.

I know I don’t share the same opinion as everyone else about this book but I find every time I buy a chapters ‘book of the month’ it’s a huge let down. This book was boring, predictable, and not the ‘so addictive it should come with a warning’ read I was promised. I kinky gave it two stars because I was able to finish it. The entire time I thought the next chapter would be the one where I understand what all the rave about the book was about. But it didn’t happen.

The TBR pile is teetering, but I've seen so many teasers about Karen Hamilton's debut novel, The Perfect Girlfriend, that I decided to jump it to the front of the queue. And I pretty much finished it in a day..... Let me introduce you to Juliette.... "Waiting. That's what I do, a lot of waiting. And thinking...." She's thinking (obsessively) about her ex boyfriend Nate. "I hope he appreciates the lengths I've gone to, just to save us - everything will fall into place." What has she done? Taken a job that puts her into Nate's world. And Nate is not the only one in her sights. "Revenge is a dish best served cold, and mine is going to be frozen." Oh my gosh, Juliette's thinking is She has a long term plan that will get her what she wants and in her eyes, what she deserves. And the path she maps to that end is frightening. Just when I thought Juliette couldn't possibly do any else, she does. I applaud Hamilton's plotting. I adore not being able to predict where a story is going to go. And with Juliette, there was no predicting. What a character! There were also two twists that I didn't anticipate and that I thought were quite clever. I leave you with one last piece of advice from Juliette... "If you love someone, set them free. If they come back, they're yours. If they don't, make them." Karen herself worked for many years as a flight attendant and her descriptions and settings reflect that. I'm hoping Juliette isn't drawn from reality! Psychological suspense fans, put this one on your list for sure!

In the spirit of Woman in the Window, Woman in Cabin 10, and Girl on the Train, The Perfect Girlfriend is the great psychological thriller of this year. Juliette is in love. Spurned by her boyfriend who has broken up with her, and scarred by events in her past, she will do anything to make things right to fix her relationship. She creates a new persona and starts a career as a flight attendant for the same airline that her ex-boyfriend is a pilot for. Juliette’s twisted journey to win back her boyfriend escalates from there and left me wondering what could possibly be next? Then I read what came next. And then what came after that. Then everything else that Juliette planned to ensure her happily-ever-after. A must read to start your year!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Scarily Good Addictive Read After reading the last sentence of the novel, I could only say 'Wow!' This page turner is scarily good and keeps the reader invested in the story right until the last page. Juliette encapsulates everything one would expect of a stalker and of a person determined to get what she wants. I could not believe the lengths she would go to to get what she wants. One of the things I loved about this book was the unexpected turns the novel takes. If this were a movie, I would be biting my nails! I raced through this addictive read in a day - I just could not put it down! The main character is terrifying, and I would not want to meet her at my workplace or even in a social environment. Hamilton has impressed me with her debut novel and I look forward to reading more of her work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing Psychological Thriller I received an ARC of "The Perfect Girlfriend" through Harper Collins Canada and Indigo.Thank you for the opportunity to read this amazing psychological thriller! A quote from the book "If you love someone, set them free. If they come back, they’re yours. If they don’t, make them." This sums up the premise of this book. Elizabeth/Lily/Juliette is obsessed with her ex-boyfriend and she will stop at nothing (I mean, NOTHING!) to get him back. The whole book is told through her thoughts. She is devious, conniving and scheming. She has devised a POA (plan of attack) that she works through step by step always with the goal of living happily ever after with Nate. She is unbelievably unscrupulous and resourceful. There were times that I did not want to be in her mind - she was THAT scary. If I have any question about the book, it is the ending, just not what I expected. I think this book would make an excellent Book Club choice to discuss the ending and also to discuss the vulnerabilities of social media. We have an innate trust that our fellow human beings will act in a certain manner and when they don't, it makes for a great book plot. Congratulations to Karen Hamilton for her excellent storytelling skills and on her debut novel which has been picked by Indigo as their Staff Pick of the Month for January 2019. Give this one a try - you will not be disappointed.
