What if you came home to find a stranger living inside your house? An "oustanding, ever-twisting, surprise-filled" psychological drama (Publishers Weekly), in the tradition of Shari Lapena and Liane Moriarty, from Edgar- and Thriller Award-nominated author Laura Benedict.

There's a stranger living in Kimber Hannon's house. He tells the police that he has every right to be there, and he has the paperwork to prove it. But Kimber definitely didn't invite this man to move in. He tells her that he knows something about her, and he wants everyone else to know it too.

"I was there. I saw what you did."

These words reveal a connection to Kimber's distant past, and dark secrets she'd long ago left buried. This trespasser isn't after anything as simple as her money or her charming Craftsman bungalow. He wants to move into her carefully orchestrated life--and destroy it.

Laura Benedict is the Edgar- and ITW Thriller Award-nominated author of six novels of dark suspense, and numerous published short stories. With her husband, Pinckney Benedict, she founded and edited the groundbreaking Surreal South: Anthology of Short Fiction series. Her short fiction has appeared in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, PA...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Suspenseful, chilling, & alarming! THE STRANGER INSIDE by LAURA BENEDICT was an interesting and enjoyable psychological thriller that had quite the unimaginable, nightmarish and scary premise. I have no idea what I would do if I came home to some unknown person living in my home. I’m sure that I would totally freak out and be a little bit nervy and rattled just like Kimber our main character was here in this story. This book immediately grabbed my attention and where I might have been a little bit annoyed with some of the narrative in the beginning and with the way our main character was portrayed here it didn’t last for long and didn’t distract me at all from the story. I thought Kimber’s character was a tad bit unlikeable but it just made the characters and the story that more compelling for me to read. I thought Kimber’s unlikeable character definitely moved the story forward and made for an entertaining read whether if I liked her or not. I definitely felt for Kimber and was panicking right along with her. LAURA BENEDICT delivers an intriguing, well-written and safe thriller here with just a smidgen of darkness to it. There are plenty of twists and turns with some surprises along the way to keep the reader guessing. I enjoyed how the story was told in the past and present timeline allowing me to learn and puzzle together who “The Stranger Inside” was along with all the secrets and lies. This was a Traveling Sisters read. Norma’s Stats: Cover: Striking, suspenseful, freaky, eye-catching and a fitting representation to storyline. Title: Appealing, suspenseful, intriguing and absolutely love how the title plays so fittingly and terrifyingly into storyline. Writing/Prose: Well-written, engaging, captivating, and fluid. Plot: Terrifying, sinister, suspenseful, gripping, fast-paced, clever, absorbing, enjoyable and extremely entertaining. I found this storyline to be quite the scary mystery! Ending: An unexpected and neatly explained ending that I was extremely satisfied with. Overall: A great read that had me entertained and immersed in this tale from start to finish! Would definitely recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent book! The Stranger Inside by Laura Benedict is a riveting and engrossing suspense novel. This book doesn't leave one moment for the reader to be bored. It will make you miss your bedtime, I couldn't put it down! It is a truly well written multifaceted murder mystery with well developed characters. Although I was able to figure out who the stranger was from early on, as well as who was involved, it didn't take away from the suspense and I was still drawn to the story because I could not figure out their motives. The pacing of the book was perfect. It had one twist after the other right until the very end. The story was told from two different timelines, each with a different POV. The chapters were dated so it was relatively easy to follow along without being confused.
