about

In Scarlett Cole's The Strongest Steel, Harper Connelly never expected to find herself outside of a tattoo parlor at one in the morning. The scars that decorate her back are just one more reminder of things she'd rather forget, the past she wants to leave far behind her, but before she can move on, she needs him.

Tattoo artist Trent Andrews has his own reasons for specializing in inking over scars. And there's no way in hell he's going to turn Harper away. Not when a swirling mix of tenderness and desire slams into him every time he sees her. She stirs feelings in him he thought were long gone... if he can only get past her carefully constructed defenses.

As each session at Second Circle Tattoos gives Harper new ink to cover up old demons, it brings her closer and closer to Trent. His lingering touches seduce her, making her believe in a life without fear, where she can be happy, whole, in love. But when cryptic messages start appearing on Harper's phone, strange deliveries arrive at her door, and Second Circle is vandalized, Harper is convinced that her ex-boyfriend has tracked her down, and worse, that he knows about Trent. She ran from her past once before; this time will she have the strength to fight back?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Read Absolutely loved this book. It gripped me right from the beginning and didn't let go till the end. Harper and Trent's story is an emotional journey worth taking. You will definitely feel their pain, happiness and fear. But most of all you will feel the love they have for each other. I am so glad I bought this book. I can't wait for Cujo and Drea's story!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Page-turning plot! I was really impressed with this book. Scarlett Cole was able to keep me engaged not just with the steamy scenes (which were very steamy!), but with an intriguing thriller of a plot! When is the movie version coming?!?! Can't wait to read the next book in January!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Strongest Debut of 2015! ** Provided by Netgalley in Exchange for an Honest Review. ** -- MY THOUGHTS -- Judging a Book by it's Cover: Brightened B&W photo gives it a washed out, faded appearance, allowing the blue font to be more prominent and eye-catching. Subtle, yet appealing. The synopsis hints at a pair of people with scarred pasts, hope for a new life, and the dangers of the past coming back to bite them. I'm excited to sink into this one. Looking Deeper: Wow, are you flippin' kidding me right now?!? THIS is a DEBUT novel - author?!? From the first page, I was sucked in. Harper's blend of timidity and bravery is fantastic. Trent has an amazing protective patience that is incredibly attractive. Their chemistry and compatibility builds at a natural pace, lending to the believability of the story. The secondary characters add just enough support and layers to create a richer, fuller plot but do not overpower the lead characters. The reader is given Harper's back story in parts and pieces, allowing you to feel what Trent feels. With the littlest incidences, we were left on the edge of our seats, wondering... waiting... he's bound to make a move soon... right? Page-turning excitement, laughs, heartache... this story had it all covered. There are numerous conflicts that are resolved in very real, raw ways - not always right or mature, but believably human mannerisms and reactions are allowed to play out. Predictability played only a minor role towards the end and there were little surprises - twists throughout. The conclusion is wrapped up tight in a perfect epilogue. The only thing that could have made it better would've been to shed some light on Reid's disappearance (I have my suspicions: guilt-ridden), but other than that, this was a freakin' fantastic debut novel and I truly and wholeheartedly look forward to reading book 2 in the series! ---------------------------------------------------------- Heat Level: 3 [PG-13 - R] ~ sexual content, 4.25 ~ Score: 4.7 ~ Stars: 5 physical, graphic violent event from the past but described in detail and relived throughout the story

Rated 5 out of 5 by from suspenseful, hard hitting &romantic What a story! Just wow! This novel runs the gamut with hard hitting, emotionally in depth topics, sweet romance, and wicked sensuality. The in-your-face look at the aftermath of serious, life altering abuse was brought even further to life by Cole’s vivid descriptions. At the same time, the recovery and sense of self was empowering. I love the in-depth look at tattooing. The why’s and how’s were intriguing, and Cole really made the notion palpable to those on both sides of the fence. I loved Harper’s courage to get passed everything with Trent, but every time something came up she’d revert to her past reactions. Trent’s patience was heart-warming, yet his alpha maleness really shone through. Separately these two were intriguing individuals, but together, they’re a couple you won’t soon forget. Cole also develops her supporting cast quite well. I fell in love with many of them and can’t wait for them to get their own stories. This novel was suspenseful and hard hitting, yet the idea of moving forward was very powerful. Cole has launched a series that I can’t wait to read more of. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from amazing debut Harper has a history that has left just as many scars on the outside as on the inside but she makes a fateful decision when she goes to Trent for a tattoo. He’s fantastic – patient, understanding and sexy as can be. As the two get to know each other, he helps her address more than just how she looks. He helps her learn how to let others close again, to realize that she’s got value, and that maybe she can do more than just survive. She’s fabulous in her own right – strong, caring and hot. She just needed a little help realizing how much strength she’s been hiding. I loved the care that Trent shows as he draws her out bit by bit and gets her to really look at herself in a new way. Of course, things can’t go smoothly for them. Besides some angst stemming from their baggage – of course, he’s not perfect so he’s got some as well – they also have to deal with ghosts from Harper’s past coming back for a visit. It gets emotional as they deal with everything that life throws their way, but they handle it together (mostly, because where would the fun be if they didn’t have some downs to go with the ups?). If this is what Cole can give readers on her first time out, I cannot wait to see what she delivers next … and next … and again in book 4.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing So! Freakin! Good! Wow, I've read a lot of tattoo artists books and this one ranks up there with one of the best. I love this author's storytelling voice and the characters in the book are perfect! Trent is alpha, confident, but gentle and sensitive. Harper has faced horrific circumstances in the past but she's working to get past them without whining or bitchiness. The secondary characters give the story just enough humor to keep it light and fun to read. If this is the kind of book this author has as her debut, I can only expect great things in the future! She definitely has me as a fan. I highly recommend this book!
