Three women fight for the chance to raise the child they’ve all come to love.

When Lilia Swallow’s husband, Graham, goes into remission after a challenging year of treatment for lymphoma, the home and lifestyle blogger throws a party. Their best friends and colleagues attend to celebrate his recovery, but just as the party is in full swing, a new guest arrives. She presents Lilia with a beautiful baby boy, and vanishes.

Toby is Graham’s darkest secret—his son, conceived in a moment of despair. Lilia is utterly unprepared for the betrayal the baby represents, and perhaps less so for the love she begins to feel once her shock subsides. Now this unasked-for, precious gift becomes a life-changer for three women: Lilia, who takes him into her home and heart; Marina, who bore and abandoned him until circumstance and grief changed her mind; and Ellen, who sees in him a chance to correct the mistakes she made with her own son, Toby’s father.

A custody battle begins, and each would-be mother must examine her heart, confront her choices and weigh her dreams against the fate of one vulnerable little boy. Each woman will redefine family, belonging and love—and the results will alter the course not only of their lives, but also the lives of everyone they care for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another Wonderful Story from Emilie Richards What is a mother? The Swallow's Nest looks at definition of mother. Is motherhood automatically granted, or do you need to earn it? This book follows a little boy, his biological mother, his step-mother, and his grandmother. They all want him, but who is the best person to be his mother? While I was cheering for one of the women from the very beginning, I quickly began to understand why the other woman want Toby. I also felt the pain for poor little Toby, who is being pulled through this when all he wants to do is be a little boy. He knows who his mother is, but he is not getting a say in any of this. This book is longer then Emilie's usual, but I was still left wanting more. I received an advanced copy of this book, as a gift from the author.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I thoroughly enjoyed this book I thoroughly enjoyed my first Emilie Richards’ book, The Swallow’s Nest. It’s a lovely, easy read with an intriguing “can’t put down” plot, well developed characters, and lots of fascinating and informative sidelight details. It’s coming out at a great time for excellent summer reading. And I’m going to look for other Emilie Richards books!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A moving story that will touch your heart Character development is such a strong suit for Emilie Richards. Her newest novel traces the story of three women who seek to raise little Toby, a child born as the result of an affair. Who should raise him? It's not such a definitive answer. I love to read a book where my opinions of the characters change as the story progresses. The wonderful aspect of Emilie's writing is that we can all identify with the good and the bad traits of these women.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The Swallow's Nest A compelling plot about child custody though there were times the characters didn’t have quite as much depth to their personalities as I might have liked. #plumreview I received an ARC through a giveaway.
