David Sedaris tells all in a book that is, literally, a lifetime in the making.

For forty years, David Sedaris has kept a diary in which he records everything that captures his attention-overheard comments, salacious gossip, soap opera plot twists, secrets confided by total strangers. These observations are the source code for his finest work, and through them he has honed his cunning, surprising sentences.

Now, Sedaris shares his private writings with the world. Theft by Finding, the first of two volumes, is the story of how a drug-abusing dropout with a weakness for the International House of Pancakes and a chronic inability to hold down a real job became one of the funniest people on the planet.

Written with a sharp eye and ear for the bizarre, the beautiful, and the uncomfortable, and with a generosity of spirit that even a misanthropic sense of humor can't fully disguise, Theft By Finding proves that Sedaris is one of our great modern observers. It's a potent reminder that when you're as perceptive and curious as Sedaris, there's no such thing as a boring day.
David Sedaris is the author of the books Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls, Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk, When You Are Engulfed in Flames, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Holidays on Ice, Naked, and Barrel Fever. He is a regular contributor to The New Yorker and BBC Radio 4. He lives in England.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love Sedaris! I have read pretty much all the books that Sedaris has put out and this one did not disappoint! I loved that it was like reading his actual diary and my only complaint is that I didn't want it to finish! I look forward to reading part 2 when it comes out. Laugh out loud funny!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarious & Absurd I bought this shortly after it was released in stores and it was just a total delight. I really enjoyed the diary format although Sedaris' writing is usually fairly confessional anway. It was fun to see how he writes for himself and there were a few Vancouver/westcoast references as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sedaris Fan As a huge David Sedaris fan, I couldn't resist. It's infinitely interesting to see him flourish as a writer over time, to experience him hone his observational humour and apply his trademark wit to his own personal life. Very easily digestible, I've got all my friends reading it too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great David Sedaris book If you like David Sedaris, then you'll love this book. Smaller snippits are dated and give an insight into his real life. Sometimes insightful, sometimes banal, and often very poignant, this is a great change in format that makes it a perfect summer (or anytime) read.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Me Talk Hilarious If you ever have a chance to see David Sedaris live, go and laugh until your stomach hurts. His poignant, twisted, quirky, compassionate stories are very observant of the human condition.
