Sloane isn't expecting to fall in with a group of friends when she moves from New York to Florida-especially not a group of friends so intense, so in love, so all-consuming. Yet that's exactly what happens.

Sloane becomes closest to Vera, a social-media star who lights up any room, and Gabe, Vera's twin brother and the most serious person Sloane's ever met. When a beloved painting by the twins' late mother goes missing, Sloane takes on the responsibility of tracking it down, a journey that takes her across state lines-and ever deeper into the twins' lives.

Filled with intense and important friendships, a wonderful warts-and-all family, shiveringly good romantic developments, and sharp, witty dialogue, this story is about finding the people you never knew you needed.

Emma Mills is the author of First & Then. She lives in Indianapolis, where she is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in cell biology.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So good! I really loved this book, and flew through it really fast. I have read both of Emma's other books, so I had a certain expectation, and that was definitely met. I don't know how she manages to write such relatable and believable teenage characters. I never once felt like I was reading something that was too young for me, or that I was too far removed from the struggles the teens were experiencing. I also have a real fascination with twin-relations, so that helped!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from YES! YES! YES! THIS BOOK IS SO FUNNY I NEED TO EXPRESS THAT FIRST OF ALL AND IN CAPITALS. OKAY. yeah, this book was so damn funny i actually laughed out loud. none of that exhaling air through my nostrils crap, I ACTUALLY LAUGHED. like a sound was made from my mouth. i rarely laugh LAUGH at books. i find things funny and i'll give a little nostril exhale of acknowledgement but this book had me physically rolling with laughing. that's pretty special. sloane was such a gem, i wish i could be half as funny as she was. i related to her so much, how she never felt like she belonged with any group of people, but then she found her squad!! I LOVE how emma mills writes about fandoms and being a 'fangirl'. sloane's dad was such a treasure when he was exploring the world of fanfiction and fandom. i'm so glad there was postitive representation for fandoms! i feel like they can get a bad rep sometimes, but it's such a huge part of this day and age! ughhhh the romance don't even get me started (that was a good ughhhh). slow burn romances are my favourite and this DELIVERED! sloane and gabe's relationship was so interesting. i loved their banter and the ending just made my very dark heart soar with happiness.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loved it! I've read both of Emma Mills' published works this year and I'm already pining for December so I can read another. This Adventure Ends is adorable and has so many elements that I love and is making Mills a contemporary auto-buy author for me, along the likes of Morgan Matson and Heather Demetrios. Her characters are always superb and this ride or die friendship group resonates so deeply with me. The banter -OMG THE BANTER - and the dialogue is so perfect and is what immediately sucked me into this book, because Sloane shutting down Mason was A+++++. Sloane's dad obsession with fan fiction was hilarious. A minor complaint I have for Mills' books is that the ship really only sails near the end of the book and there are never enough pages to make me completely satisfied. But she writes the build up and friendship so well that she can get away with it. Also, this cover and book design are everything and I will never stop staring and swooning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful book I bought this book because I thought the cover was pretty but I do not regret it! I did not expect to like this book as much as I did. I loved the characters and the friendship between them. This is a beautiful story about friendship and love. It made me happy, it made me laugh and it made me cry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Wish It Didn't End Last year I read and loved Emma Mill's debut, First & Then. It's no wonder This Adventure Ends would become yet another favourite of mine. Emma Mills's writing is so catchy and fun, I love it. Every character is a star in This Adventure Ends. Each shone in their own way and it was impossible not to care for them. They're a hearty bunch~ Having them lit up Sloane's (and my) life. Sloane's a bit of a confusing character. She read like an unconfident teenager (doubting Vera's interest in her) yet she was able to effortlessly stand up for/to Gabe. I'm not quite sure what to make of her but she's definitely unique. Her sense of humour is quirky and adorable. I had so many laugh-out-loud moments with her. Priceless dialogues I tell you! The rapport between Sloane and her father is fabulous. I love how easy it was for her to talk to him. He's so goofy. It warmed my heart to see them have a good time chatting about fanfic, AU and just general life stuff. Even when conflict arose between them I wasn't worried. It was touching to see how much Sloane wanted to find the painting for Vera and Gabe. The painting was important to her too. She might not have realized why but I love what her search for the painting symbolized. So sweet when she realized it. Sloane and Gabe had a very subtle and slow-burn type of relationship. For the majority of the book, the focus was on their friendship. My girly heart beat hectically when romantic things finally happened. I wish there were more swoons! I needed more "Hot Pockets"! The small mystery over Remy and Aubrey's break up was such a realistic approach to relationships. That's the simple, honest truth. I enjoyed This Adventure Ends so much I zipped through the book. Now all I want to do is go back and reread it. I miss all the characters and you definitely will too once you get to know them.

Editorial Reviews

"Immensely enjoyable." -Booklist"Mills (First & Then) seamlessly creates art imitating life imitating art while bringing freshness to the familiar romantic conventions she invokes. With taut, realistic dialogue, she expertly crafts blossoming friendships and nascent romances." -Publishers WeeklyPraise for First & Then:"With sporadic references to Jane Austen's famous characters and wickedly inventive language, Mills closely observes the social milieu of an American high school.... A fresh, smart, inventive, and altogether impressive debut." -Kirkus Reviews, starred review
