A New York Times, USA Today, and Indie bestseller!

Critically acclaimed and bestselling authors Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera combine their talents in this smart, funny, heartfelt collaboration about two very different boys who can’t decide if the universe is pushing them together—or pulling them apart.

ARTHUR is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it’s that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it.

BEN thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn’t be on his way to the post office carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend’s things.

But when Arthur and Ben meet-cute at the post office, what exactly does the universe have in store for them . . . ?

Maybe nothing. After all, they get separated.

Maybe everything. After all, they get reunited.

But what if they can’t nail a first date even after three do-overs?

What if Arthur tries too hard to make it work and Ben doesn’t try hard enough?

What if life really isn’t like a Broadway play?

But what if it is?

What if it’s us?
Becky Albertalli is the author of William C. Morris Award winner and National Book Award longlist title, Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda (now a major motion picture, Love, Simon); the acclaimed The Upside of Unrequited; and the upcoming What If It’s Us (co-written with Adam Silvera). Becky lives with her family in Atlanta.   Adam Sil...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Real Story This book is heckin' cute. And it has a lot of very fun parts. But it's also incredibly realistic at times, and there is a lot of cringe. So, it is also kind of a little bit sad. Just know that it's definitely not all fun and games. But it has some lovely presentations of different relationships, and I love the characters a lot a lot (mainly Dylan and Samantha, even though they're not even the protagonists. They're both so cool). Everyone feels so real! Which isn't always a good thing. . .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most amazing book ever!! I read this book in two days... accidentally. I couldn't put it down! It's the single cutest story ever - it hits all the romance points and then some. The chapters alternate between the POV of each main character, and that makes the story even more interesting. Do yourself a favour, and read this book right now!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lives up to the hype Arthur and Ben: the encounter of two young boys who are meant to meet. The story is told from two pints of view: Ben's and Arthur's. Ben is the New Yorker who has just come out of a broken relationship. Arthur is in New York for the summer. He is starry-eyed and never been in love. It is his determination and enthusiasm that changes a chance meeting in a post office to the chance to get to know another. I love the naivete of Arthur and how his enthusiasm makes Ben a believer in the possibilities. This novel definitely made me smile. Who can't but love the description of first love? And what makes this story relevant for teens today is that it is a love story between two boys who are finding their place in the world and who are learning to be comfortable with who they are. The novel fills in a gap that has existed and shows boys that it is okay to fall in love with someone of the same sex - that it is not something to be ashamed of. Without giving much away, I will say that I liked the ending. It is not a traditional ending for a romance; but it is an ending that is perfect for a teen novel. I started this book wondering if the social media hype was accurate; and ended it with the conclusion that What If It's Us was well worth the read.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It was OK This boo wasn't for me. It has a lot of high ratings but I guess for me it was a little over rated.... and a little clique. I read it in two days, though so it wasn't bad or anything. If you like cute, funny books about teen crushes then you should read this book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing!!! Man, this book was honestly just a blessing. I finished this book in two days, 10 hours total, and I didn't want to put it down! I found not only the relationship between these very awkward but so totally in love people to be so enchanting and exciting but I also found myself so frustrated at times with the universe and circumstances the characters found themselves in and I felt myself cheering them on the entire time. The two main characters of Arthur and Ben complemented each other nicely and brought out the best in each other. Of course credit must also go to the incredibly engaging character of Dylan with his romantic endeavours with his soon-to-be-future-wife, Samantha for being an amazing character and just being super chill. The relationships tackled in this book aren't just romantic though as we see the way growing up and romantic relationships affect long-standing and short-standing friendships. Anyway the story is "extrotally" amazing and beautiful, I love it and I would recommend it to anyone who loves a great awkward romance novel with real confrontations and problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EVERYTHING My book came in 5 days ago and ive re-read it at least 17 times! It's full of Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen, tons of do-overs, and the biggest shipper in the whole world: THE UNIVERSE. Ben and Arthur are my fave pairing AND ITS MENT TO BE IF THE UNIVERSE SHIPS YOU! I would rate this book 1,000,000,000/5 stars if I could and recommend it for people who like Simon vs the homo sapiens agenda. Without spoilers, all I have to say is giant cookies, Ansel Elgort, do-overs, universe, post office, Ben the Rat, and Jurassion Passion

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Cannot Shut Up About This Book! This book is incredible. Humourous, heartwarming, heartbreaking, romantic; What If It's Us encompasses it all. There wasn't an emotion I didn't feel oozing out of the pages of this book. Arthur and Ben's story is raw and real, and reminds me of what it's like to fall in love again. I've always loved the ways both Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli write, and how different they are! But from knowing all their previous works, it was so apparent to me how influential each author was on the other. This doesn't feel like two characters written by two authors that connect to make one story. What If It's Us flows seamlessly from one POV to the other and back, and I think that shows just how great of authors, and friends, Adam and Becky are. Can I also get an Amen from my Broadway nerd friends! This book reeks with Hamilton-, Dear Evan Hansen-, and a plethora of other-fandom knowledge, and is way too relatable for teens (especially us gay and bi boys) in this day and age. Is it not every gay's dream to spend an entire summer (or rest of our life) in New York and fall in love with the cute boy we run into at the post office? What If?..... #IndigoEmployee

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A True Delight Can I give a book 10000000000000^5 stars? If I could, this book would have them. I knew I was going to love it-- both the storyline and the authors really intrigued me-- but I didn't realize I was going to love it this much. Reading this book was one of those experiences of reading exactly the right book at exactly the right time. Albertalli and Silvera's voices are made for each other and were expertly blended throughout. Both Arthur and Ben absolutely come alive on the page (yes, I know how corny that sounds, but it's true!), and their love story was the most romantically realistic one I've read in a long time. It made me remember what first love feels like; it ripped me in two and then carefully put me back together. I mean, what else can you expect from a book that heavily features DEAR EVAN HANSEN AND HAMILTON!? I laughed, I cried, I hugged the book, and I DID not want it to end. This will be the YA book I recommend most wholeheartedly this fall. I really hope to see more from these authors together in the future. Like ASAP. *Thank you to HarperCollins Canada for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review* #indigoemployee
