about

New York Times bestselling author Lauren Weisberger returns with a novel starring one of her favorite characters from The Devil Wears Prada—Emily Charlton, first assistant to Miranda Priestly, now a highly successful image consultant who’s just landed the client of a lifetime.

Welcome to Greenwich, CT, where the lawns and the women are perfectly manicured, the Tito’s and sodas are extra strong, and everyone has something to say about the infamous new neighbor.

Let’s be clear: Emily Charlton, Miranda Priestly’s ex-assistant, does not do the suburbs. She’s working in Hollywood as an image consultant to the stars, but recently, Emily’s lost a few clients. She’s hopeless with social media. The new guard is nipping at her heels. She needs a big opportunity, and she needs it now.

Karolina Hartwell is as A-list as they come. She’s the former face of L’Oreal. A mega-supermodel recognized the world over. And now, the gorgeous wife of the newly elected senator from New York, Graham, who also has his eye on the presidency. It’s all very Kennedy-esque, right down to the public philandering and Karolina’s arrest for a DUI—with a Suburban full of other people’s children.

Miriam is the link between them. Until recently she was a partner at one of Manhattan’s most prestigious law firms. But when Miriam moves to Greenwich and takes time off to spend with her children, she never could have predicted that being stay-at-home mom in an uber-wealthy town could have more pitfalls than a stressful legal career.

Emily, Karolina, and Miriam make an unlikely trio, but they desperately need each other. Together, they’ll navigate the social landmines of life in America’s favorite suburb on steroids, revealing the truths—and the lies—that simmer just below the glittering surface. With her signature biting style, Lauren Weisberger offers a dazzling look into another sexy, over-the-top world, where nothing is as it appears.
Lauren Weisberger was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on March 28, 1977. She graduated from Cornell University in 1999 with a B.A. in English. After backpacking abroad she moved to Manhattan and worked as the assistant to the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue. Less than a year later Weisberger was writing reviews for Departures magazine and atte...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy read I really enjoyed this book. It was a nice, easy read. It's the perfect "beach read". It was nice to read about Emily, one of the characters from the Devil wears Prada since we had an update on Andy in her other book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light but Fun! A fun read. I actually laughed out loud - I hope they make this into a movie series as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A light fun read This is a fun and easy read that will make you laugh out loud at times. It's actually better than what I expected since I love Devil wears Prada but didn't really like Revenge wears Parada...I always like Emily anyway so it's great to see the spinoff book about her.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better Than Expected! A lot of people comment that the book is predictable, and while it may be a little, it was still hilarious. I am so happy that Emily is back, and she is as fierce and witty as before! I love how realistic this book was as well - in showing women from different lifestyles, and finding your true friends who will always have your back! It was definitely better than I expected when I picked it up! #plumreview

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light Easy Read Perfect book to pickup if you just want to get away from it all. Book is predicable, however characters were fun. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Will be looking to read more from Lauren

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun and Fearless! Fun read for the beach or a plane (which is where I read it) and great to catch up with old characters. The only gripe that I would have would be the British character Emily meets. I felt that he really had no point in the narrative. Real eye opener in the life of suburban moms with way too much money on their hands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Devil Wears Lululemon I really enjoyed this. As some reviewers said its a mindless read and that's why I love it! I read to entertain not so much educate myself. It had me wondering why I never picked up any of Lauren's books before. It had a good story line and was fun!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fun, light read predictable, but based on title you expect the content to be mostly fluff

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Read This was such a fun book! I loved catching up with the Devil Wears Prada characters...this was an excellent sequel that could easily stand alone. Great characters and I loved seeing the pop culture references throughout the book. A great summer read!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ok Just ok. If you want a quick easy book to read that requires very little thought, then this might be for you. It was very predictable and I only finished it because it was a quick read. This is one of these books where the movie would probably be better than the book.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best beach read this year This book is a great little beach read. Not too much romance, not too much drama or suspense. Not a must keep reading page turner but a good plot and fun story. Even if you never read Devil Wears Prada, if you've seen the movie you can keep up with this plot easily, and i'm sure if you haven't done either you would still enjoy this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Summer Read Simple to follow, easy read that's great for the beach or when you're just looking for a light book. As other reviewers said it doesn't get too deep just a simple summer read.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A nice beach read, but not as good as her other books I read this book looking for a light, happy beach read and while this book was definitely that, I don't think the plot was as good as her other books. I didn't find myself as absorbed with the plot this go-round. Still a nice cute beach read, just not as good as all her others.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from When Life Gives You Lululemons When Life Gives You Lululemons : light summer reading book.
Date published: 2018-06-12
Rated 3 out of 5 by from This is a fluffy, beach read that will keep you hooked from the beginning. "When Life Gives You Lululemons" is a follow-up to "The Devil Wears Prada". This time, the protagonist is Emily who no longer works for Miranda Priestly but as a consultant who cleans up celebrity mess-ups. Her friend Miriam, a stay-at-home, ex-lawyer mom who lives in Greenwich introduces her to another friend, Karolina, a senator's wife who has been accused of DUI. Emily can't resist taking on Karolina's case and comes into contact with the wealthy residents of Greenwich who apparently live in another reality from the rest of us. This is a fluffy, beach read that will keep you hooked from the beginning. There are several brief references to characters from the first book and except for Miranda Priestly, they play no role in this story. A note to future readers, this book is pretty racy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Perfect Sequel This book is literally the PERFECT SUMMER READ. It is an absolute delight, and pairs perfectly with a patio and a fruity, cold glass of wine (or vodka soda if you want to be like Emily). The story picks back up with Emily working as a celebrity crisis manager - and stuck out in the suburbs, which is her own personal version of hell. She is visiting her old friend Miriam, who is working hard at acclimatizing to the suburban mom life, when THE celebrity crisis of the month falls directly in her lap in the form of Karolina Hartwell - the wife of a local senator who has been accused of driving drunk with children in her vehicle - a charge she vehemently denies. Emily finds herself wading in the newest territory yet - suburban marriage drama. Emily is just as delightfully sarcastic and blunt as she ever was, making this the most satisfying sequel for a character I adore. Plus, Miranda makes an appearance (or two). This book is such a magnificent look at female friendships and how those bonds are the ones that endure through all that life throws at you. Which is all to say, definitely go get a copy of this book, your summer won't be complete without it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Emily's new gig is hilarious Definitely another Lauren Weisberger hit. Well written, fast paced story of re-empowering formerly powerful women who are now mothers. Emily Charlton of Devil Wears Prada fame is back, but now she's her own boss. Emily's LA based image consulting business works for Miles' Hong Kong based job but when a NY based star calls Emily is on the next plane but finding herself in Greenwich CT - aka the Burbs. Emily's bunking at Miriam Kagan's home for a few days - that quickly becomes three weeks. When their mutual friend, retired high fashion model Karolina Hartwell, needs Miriam's lawyer skills and Emily's image control skills life takes on a new pace. The touching incidents of motherhood are sneakily buried in the fast paced humor that Lauren Weisberger does so well. Miranda Priestly of Runway appears here and watching Emily's interactions was top notch. A lot goes on in this burb - imagine an hooka party on a Monday night! Left me smiling and cheering for our three friends, Emily, Miriam, & Lina.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I loved this book so much! 4.5/5 stars When Life Gives You Lululemons is Chick Lit. It is a Devil Wears Prada novel. This is a charming book that will make you laugh and smile. I really liked it! I have read all of Lauren Weisberger's previous books. So I was excited to see that she had a new book coming out. I absolutely love the title of this book. And it is actually relevant to the story. I think that many people will wonder whether this book can be read as a standalone. I'd say yes and no. The story definitely stands on its own. And readers will be able to follow it without knowing anything about the previous books. However, IMO I think that it is important to know the basic story of The Devil Wears Prada. Especially what Emily's job was and who Miranda Priestley is (as these things are referenced a lot in this book). The book is divided into two parts and features funny chapter titles. The story mostly takes place in Greenwich, Connecticut. There are three third person narrators: Emily, Miriam and Karolina. The cross-over character from The Devil Wears Prada is Emily. She was Miranda Priestly’s assistant at Runway magazine. Now she is married to Miles and working in Hollywood as an image consultant to the stars. Miriam is Emily's friend. She is married to Paul. She was a partner at a law firm, but is now a stay at home mom in Greenwich, Connecticut. Karolina is Miriam's friend. She was a supermodel and is now married to a Senator. Something happens in Karolina's life and she needs help. This is the main focus of the book. I really loved all three of these women. They were all interesting. And I loved that their personalities were so different. I never mixed up their POVs, which was very refreshing. I really enjoyed this book. The story was very funny. Especially the trio of women together. It was fantastic. There is some romance, although it's not the focus of the story. Overall, this was such an enjoyable read! If you love Chick Lit and are looking for something fun and funny this is a great read. I loved it! Thanks to edelweiss and Simon & Schuster for allowing me to read this book.
