Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Couldn't Put It Down and I Didn't Want It To End! Such a good read! You're drawn in from the first sentence and time stops as each page flows effortlessly into the next. Unexpected plot twists drive you through chapter after chapter and the next thing you know, you're heading to work on half a night's sleep feeling quite content. (True story.) Yes. Tough subjects are the backdrop of this novel but these are explored with respect and sincerity at all times. Never preachy, never self righteous in tone or intent. I especially enjoyed the narration. It felt real throughout. I was there, I cried, I laughed, I was worried and concerned. L O V E D this book. I highly recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Authentic Voice and a Compelling Main Character I am a middle-aged woman, not exactly the target reader for a young adult novel! Nevertheless, this story connected with me. Andre Fenton uses clear language that will connect with his audience. I was taken back to the halls of high school, a time when all of us feel judged and time seems to be hurling us forward into a world of new responsibilities. When my son is old enough, I’ll be passing this book on because, as with all good fiction, he’ll step into the shoes of someone dealing with the usual problems of high school alongside the injustice of racism, toxic societal images of the way we should look, and the minefield of love. Get this for the teen in your life.

Editorial Reviews

"Fenton writes with such emotion it's as if he lays bare Adrian's soul on every page. But this is the allure of Fenton's writing - he's a spoken word artist, and his poetic flow connects Adrian's story with our own individual ones. His words never miss a beat, pulling readers in as if they are listening to his stunning live reads."
