about

The hilarious, take-no-prisoners novel about a cynical, sex-obsessed teenager's pining love for an intelligent girl--the basis for the major motion picture starring Michael Cera

Youth in Revolt is the journals of Nick Twisp, California's most precocious diarist, whose ongoing struggles to make sense out of high school, deal with his divorced parents, and lose his virginity result in his transformation from an unassuming fourteen-year-old to a modern youth in open revolt. As his family splinters, worlds collide, and the police block all routes out of town, Nick must cope with economic deprivation, homelessness, the gulag of the public schools, a competitive type-A father, murderous canines, and an inconvenient hair trigger on his erectile response--all while vying ardently for the affections of the beauteous Sheeni Saunders, teenage goddess and ultimate intellectual goad.
C.D. Payne is the author of the novels Revolting Youth, Civic Beauties, Cut to the Twisp, Frisco Pigeon Mambo, Young and Revolting, and Revoltingly Young, among others. He lives in Sonoma County.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cannot Recommend This Enough! One of my all time favourite books. When I first saw the cover it was so bizarre I had to have it. Little did I know how funny it truly was. I would put the book down and than moments later have to pick it back up to keep reading it was truly that good and my sides hurt for days

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I LOVE THIS BOOK! These books are awesome. The humour and the sarcasm will keep you turning pages, along with the constant mishaps that Nick manages to get himself into. I strongly recommend all the books in this series. Two cautions: This book is NOT for young adults. There are parts in there that my mother wouldn't want me to read and I'm a grown woman haha. Also, when you get past the second book, Chapters doesn't carry the next two in store or online. It's a little frustrating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The funniest book I've ever read. My boyfriend purchased this book a few years ago at World's Biggest Bookstore entirely on the strength of its entertaining cover. Lucky for me, because not long after we met, he shared the book with me. I have never laughed so hard at a book in my life. There were literally times that I had to put it down for a few minutes and compose myself because my tears of laughter were making it difficult to continue reading. Every single person I have ever given this book to has loved it, and come back for the sequel, Revolting Youth... which is just as funny and engaging as the original. Imagine if Adrian Mole were not a misunderstood juvenile intellectual, but a wholly self-absorbed, socially maladjusted miscreant with no conscience at all. Imagine that, and you might have a slight inkling what it's like to be privy to the mind of Nick Twisp. Shocking twists and misadventures abound- explosions, cross-dressing and rampant deception are only a few of the things you can expect in this hilarious counter-cultural novel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Youth In Revolt Have you ever wondered what the world is like through the eyes of a 14 year old boy? Now you can read about it. This book is very funny and I've made all my friends read it. Nick Twisp is the main character and as the story evolves he gets into some pretty tight situations. You won't believe what you're reading and the ending is the best part. When you're done all the pictures on the front cover will make perfect sense to you.
