Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The first book I've ever read I first read this book when I was in Grade One and I loved it. The story of Violet, Klaus and Sunny is undeniably tragic and had me hooked. The language is sophisticated and challenging, but not impossible for younger kids to read. Would recommend again and again!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice reads but... this books are really lovely to read but I found if you start them or try to reread them later in life they aren't the best. I would still recommend them but would warn that older readers be prepared for the occasional talking down to and predicability

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So, So Good The voice in these books is to die for. Lemony Snicket isn't just a pseudonym; he's a whole other person. Absolutely incredible children's books. Bravo!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Once again... another great buy! I read the whole series as a kid, and after several re-reads throughout my teen years and young adult years, my copies were very worn. Passed my old set onto a friend and bought these boxed beauties! Such a great series, which really differs from anything I have ever read. Not to mention, I like how the storyline never really gives you a complete 'fairytale' happy ending for each book. Even in the final book, Mr.Snicket really shows us how life isn't always fair but nonetheless can and will still improve over time. The books themselves contain some humor, but always have a looming dark undertone. Also, since the books are based on the true events of a case that happened around the 1930's-40s, as you read and remember this, you really are awe struck at what these children endured. Perfect for any age from 10-100! You can't go wrong with these books!!! PS--- Do not watch the movies or new netflix series before reading these, while as the movie did a good job capturing the mood, the books were completely out of order, and they only included the first three, with an ending that they pulled out of a hat. While as the netflix series really highlighted the humorous tones, but they completely messed up the symbols. To get the best and fullest experience, read the book FIRST!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Dreadfully Delightful Series I bought this simply to have the hardcover editions in my collection. I read this series when they were first published and as an adult I still find the dark humour and outlandish settings to be just as wonderful to read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Weird and Wonderful This series was a delight to read, and very different from other YA books. It provides a different kind of villain, and heroes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Boxset I loved these books as a kid, however my paperbacks died somewhere around 6th re-read, so the decision to buy the hardcover boxset was a no brainer and the price was way to good to pass up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Very First Series Growing Up I read this series when I was younger and thoroughly enjoyed it. Many people do not enjoy this series because it is dismal and sad, but it has a unique story line unlike any I have read or am currently reading. It is a perfect start for a series, and a long one as well. I recommend this series completely because it is one of my absolute favourites!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE IT! Read these as a child and recently started to read them again! As grim as it was, it was still a great read! I would definitely give it a shot!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the Best Book Series Growing Up I've read all 13 multiple times, and have even invested in the other books that lemony snicket has written. I love the mystery and how the storyline keeps you guessing until the next book. There's always something new to find out when you read the books again, and sometimes the more you think you know, you get more confused. LOVE the series!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from worth the price! This series is amazing After reading the first chapter of book 1 I didn't really think I was going to get into it but I'm now on the 4th book and I cant put it down! This book is not just for young people I'm 20 years old and I love it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Bit Pricey While this set includes several novels, purchasers won't see much of a cost savings. Picking the books up individually may cost more in the end, but the savings aren't as great as expected.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great I wasn't too excited about the price but it is reasonable for so many books! The plot is endearing and makes a good light read even for adults!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything is just perfect Best series I've ever read, a very original plot and the way the author writes the story is great, you will never get bored and will probably fall badly in love with Klaus, maybe Violet and probably Sunny. Everyone is loveable (probably not Count Olaf) but this is worth the money and time, because I promise that you will never want to skip a page or a word when you read this. You'll probably end up finishing the series by a week.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great read! I love these books for one reason, they are not the typical happily ever after story. I enjoy the writing style, and the characters aswell. All around these books are just great, and I would recommend them to anyone who likes misfortune.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best Most Gruling Series This was the most grabing set of books I've ever read. From the more than average children to the excrusiating pain count olaf gave me this is a good read from ages ten to one hundred and ten. It may be exspensive but it's worth it. It's a great gift!
