Sisters. Strangers. Survivors.
More than twenty years ago, Claire and Lydia’s teenaged sister Julia vanished without a trace. The two women have not spoken since, and now their lives could not be more different. Claire is the glamorous trophy wife of an Atlanta millionaire. Lydia, a single mother, dates an ex-con and struggles to make ends meet. But neither has recovered from the horror and heartbreak of their shared loss—a devastating wound that's cruelly ripped open when Claire's husband is killed.
The disappearance of a teenage girl and the murder of a middle-aged man, almost a quarter-century apart: what could connect them? Forming a wary truce, the surviving sisters look to the past to find the truth, unearthing the secrets that destroyed their family all those years ago . . . and uncovering the possibility of redemption, and revenge, where they least expect it.
Powerful, poignant, and utterly gripping, packed with indelible characters and unforgettable twists, Pretty Girls is a masterful novel from one of the finest writers working today.

Karin Slaughter was born in Georgia on January 6, 1971. In 2001, she published her first novel, Blindsighted, which made the Dagger Award shortlist for Best Thriller Debut. She is the author of the Grant County series and the Will Trent series. Her other titles, Unseen and Cop Town, made The New York Times Bestseller List.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but dragged a little I enjoyed the book and it kept me engaged however I agree with another review in that towards the end just found myself skimming through it to just finish it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but graphic My first Karin Slaughter book and hoo boy, that was not an easy read. You can't tell from the description but it deals with the rape, torture, and murder of women, so I found myself cringing a ton. That said, the characters were compelling and there were some great twists.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Summer read First half was great, I found myself skimming through the last half on the book just wanting to get to the climax. Was a great "beach book", one of those books that you'd pick up at the airport. No substance, but interesting enough to want to know how it ends.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really good! I really enjoyed this one. I loved The Good Daughter by Karin so I was excited to pick this up. It's more graphic than The Good Daughter. It's a chilling story and sad, too. I liked the pacing and it kept me hooked.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gripping...but not for faint of heart. Karin slaughter does it again! Great read, very graphic and violent so would not recommend to everyone. My new favourite crime thriller author by far.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gripping.. This book is unlike anything I have ever read. I couldn't put it down, it is a page turner and a THRILLER. You have to be open to reading not so wonderful things, as this book is disturbing. I only gave it 4 stars because the ending wasn't as good...needed something more

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I couldn't put it down I stayed up late reading this book because I just kept wanting to know what happened next. There was good suspense and I was happy with the outcome. I honestly could have used and epilogue where some plot points were tied up but overall it was good!
Date published: 2017-08-18
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Went Downhill Quickly... I had high hopes for this book but I wasn't super impressed with the outcome. The plot twists are not shocking, and the book is rather predictable. If you enjoy dark thrillers, that's what this book is, minus the plot twists and shocking moments. The beginning is highly enjoyable but once you have the story figured out, the rest of the novel falls flat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid and disturbing thriller This was a departure from Karin's usual protagonists, as her other books are presented from the perspective of those involved in law enforcement and solving the cases. Pretty Girls presents a gruesome mystery that must be unraveled by the family involved. This one is definitely not for the 'faint of heart', as it involves some pretty graphic depictions of torture and violence.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty Girls I loved all the secrets, the lies, and the unknowing. It was dark and great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty Girls A very disturbing thriller. Haunting, sad, and captivating.
Date published: 2017-07-13
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Disturbing & graphic content The book was well-written and I enjoyed the surprise elements of the book, but I found the subject matter of this particular book to be very disturbing and graphic. There were times when I felt nauseous reading certain scenes. Had I known this before purchasing the book, I would not have bought it. That being said, Slaughter is an excellent writer, and is very descriptive and detailed n her narration of the story. I have read some of her other books (Will Trent series) and have enjoyed them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Should have a warning for violence Very interesting but some scenes were gruesome.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Suspense right to the very end Ah, this book was a page turner. Loved the suspense which starts early and lasts to the very end. The only thing I didn't like was the abuse on women but if you can get past that the rest is amazingly good.
Date published: 2017-03-01

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't put it down! This book is beautifully written. I can't even being to explain how upset I was once I had finished it, I loved every word of it and didn't want it to end. The author wraps everything up really well and really makes you feel like you're in the story, witnessing everything with the characters.
Date published: 2017-01-20
Rated 3 out of 5 by from ok but nothing outstanding This is a very linear, predictable narrative. I'd definitely expected more from it, but was pretty disappointed. It is a very easy read. If you don't have time to focus on more detailed and thought-through stories, then this might be a good option for you.
Date published: 2016-11-22

“A hell-raising thriller…a genuinely exciting narrative driven by strong-willed female characters who can’t wait around until the boys shake the lead out of their shoes.”
