Buckle up—the argeneaus are back in a sexy, witty new novel from New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands

Dante Notte has heard it said that love hurts. He just wasn’t expecting it to run him over in an RV. Still, a punctured lung and broken ribs are nothing compared to the full-body shock he feels whenever he’s near the vehicle’s driver, Mary Winslow. He needs to keep her safe from their pursuers while he rescues his brother. Most challenging of all, he needs to claim this smart, stubborn woman as his life mate.

The naked, injured, insanely gorgeous younger man who clambered into her RV insists they belong together. If Mary wasn’t feeling their incredible connection in every inch of her being, she wouldn’t believe it. But now that the men who took Dante’s twin are after her too, trusting her gut means risking her life for an immortal who’s the very definition of a perfect stranger.

Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I was pleasantly surprised with this book, adoring the characters and storyline as well. Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy: Some of the best stories start with a bang, and RUNAWAY VAMPIRE starts with our main character getting run over by an RV, whilst naked, whilst running away from his captives who still have his twin brother. BANG! I thought the last few books in the Argenau series lacked action, but I was pleasantly surprised with this book, adoring the characters and storyline as well. Dante Notte and his twin Tomasso have been featured in quite a few of the books before, acting as bodyguards, teaching new vampires how to feed, and punching a few bad guys in the face. I was pleased that their stories happened separately though, since it gives more room for the individual romances to develop. Unfortunately for the twins, someone managed to kidnap them and is planning all sorts of terrible things for them. Dante manages to escape but must run away before he can free his brother. As he’s running at full vampire speed, he meets Mary, and the broad side of her RV. The initial romance is a bit stunted; when Dante meets Mary, she is a widowed 62 year old woman who cannot understand why the hunk she ran over would be interested in her. Yeah, he’s cute, but she’s old enough to be his grand-mother! Dante does give her space to grasp the idea, but he sizzles when he’s near her. You get to hear a lot about Mary’s life and previous husband, which was interesting. It’s nice to have a heroine who isn’t fresh out of college and finding her way in a busy city or something. Mary has grown up children, friends her age and definite ideas about what she wants in a guy. She was incredibly interesting to read about, and definitely plays a hand in saving herself and Dante, and maybe even Tomasso in the next book. She’s smart, has lived and loved before, and is overall one of my favourite paranormal romance heroines in recent memory. I also really liked that we saw a glimpse of something that is often glossed over in these books; a person’s family after they become a vampire. Most of the time, authors chicken out and make the person a loner with no friends or family and no one will really miss them after they disappear and join the vampire ranks. Mary is a grandmother; she has people in her life. She even tries to visit her daughter after her change, which is forbidden. As much as I was disappointed with Bricker’s story, the Notte twins seem to have lots of action in their stories, and even seems to spark a new arc in the Argeneau series. Someone is kidnapping vampires and doing experiments on them? Oh dear! Hopefully this arc lasts a few more books and isn’t finished up in IMMORTAL NIGHTS which comes out in September 2016.
