The fourth in the Faithful and the Fallen series from John Gwynne, an epic fantasy perfect for fans of George R. R. Martin, Brandon Sanderson and David Gemmell.
Events are coming to a climax in the Banished Lands, as the war reaches new heights. King Nathair has taken control of the fortress at Drassil and three of the Seven Treasures are in his possession. And together with Calidus and his ally Queen Rhin, Nathair will do anything to obtain the remaining Treasures. With all seven under his command, he can open a portal to the Otherworld. Then Asroth and his demon-horde will finally break into the Banished Lands and become flesh.

Meanwhile Corban has been taken prisoner by the Jotun, warrior giants who ride their enormous bears into battle. His warband scattered, Corban must make new allies if he hopes to survive. But can he bond with competing factions of warlike giants? Somehow he must, if he's to counter the threat Nathair represents.

His life hangs in the balance - and with it, the fate of the Banished Lands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Saga for the Ages! Since I found my way to The Banished Lands last year, I've fallen in love with the characters and the world that Mr. Gwynne has created. I wanted and didn't want this series to end. I needed it to end to find out how Ban and the rest of the remarkably rich characters that I've sweated over, worried over and laughed with, would make out. I didn't want it to end because I'm not ready to leave this world...not ready to say goodbye. I thought it was a fantastic conclusion to an amazing series of books and I look forward to reading anything else that John Gwynne has up his sleeve.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Epic and Bittersweet There aren't enough stars for me to rate how much I genuinely love this book and how sad I am to see it end. This is among the best fantasy books I've ever read, second only to the work of Michael J Sullivan (I prefer both these authors to George R R Martin, honestly). And to be honest, I couldn't have asked for a more perfect ending to what has been an epic, exciting, emotional thrill ride that I'm to this day recommending to everyone I know. Right from the beginning there were adventures, danger, betrayal, love, and sacrifice. Everyone reached the end of their arc, and many beloved characters went down in a serious blaze of glory. While some of the deaths I predicted, they still hurt, but I'm still not complaining. This book was absolutely glorious with so many adventures and meetings and repairing broken trusts and causing utter devastation. And that final battle? WHOA. Talk about intense! Return of the King final battle intense! I can't get enough of this series and while I'm still going to be sad that it's over, I highly recommend them to all fantasy lovers and can't wait to see what John Gwynne creates for us next. MUST READ!!!
